EDIT: This seems weird to me. I've seen something narrow, like a pole, cut a car clean in half like that before, but not just a collision with another car.
I could be wrong, but it looks like the rear section has some serious overspray - like it was painted recently.
The car could have been salvaged from two wrecked cars, with one good front and one good rear section welded together, then painted to match the front section's original color.
That would explain the location and the severity of the split.
I mean, I must have looked at a gazillion wrecked Miata pics, and I don't remember a split Miata so far.
Or I could be wrong.
My gutted bathroom, below. It is completely stripped down to the subfloor and studs. I have all brand new fixtures to be installed (shower, sink, toilet) as well as new floor tile. Faucets, hoses, drains, it's all brand new. No wiring or real plumbing to do, just drop the fixture in place and hook it up. Hell, the faucets and hoses have already been installed on the sink, which is about a 20 minute job. One guy quoted me over $100 to do that.
I have had quotes ranging from $5700 to over $6900. Today a guy quoted me $750 plus materials to put up drywall. It's a freaking 5' x 8' bathroom, for heaven's sake. Where do these contractors get off charging such incredible rates?
Two things. First, it's actually more difficult to work in a smaller space. You can't make any of the cuts, etc.. in the room so you burn a lot of time walking back and forth. They are gonna obviously bill you for that. Second, any contractor for the most part is going to have some minimum in their head that makes it worth their time to come to a small job. That's just the way it works, esp for anyone that does quality work and are thus in demand.
I'd happily pay the $750 to avoid having to mud and sand the drywall, esp if that includes being primed out and ready to go.
My house has been a reno construction zone now going on 4 months. Replacing doors, all trim (base, door and window casings, crown moldings), will be doing the kitchen, all bathrooms, strand bamboo flooring, porcelain tile flooring in kitchen and foyer, wainscotting in the foyer flowing up the staircase and down the upstairs hallway.
In hindsight, I definite should have done room by room instead of demoing the floors in the whole house at once. It would have made living during the process a lot better.
Been focusing on the upstairs first. Have all the doors in and cased, and the windows rough cased everywhere. Stacks of flooring forced me to stop assembly lining all rooms and begin finishing each room individually to use up flooring. Finished the master bedroom last month and just finished the master closet today. Closet took 2 full weeks to do (reference to my last post about small spaces actually being harder to work in). I'm wrapping up my home office now, just need to paint the walls and put down the floor.

... and less than one week after moving into my beautiful new parking spot, the person who drives a big black Chevy Equinox, Wisconsin plate # 875-WES, and parks it right behind me, somehow managed to sideswipe my car, in reverse, as I was parked in the exact center of my hilariously long parking space, which I assumed to be the safest possible location.
Do you see how far down that Chevy the marks extend? How the hell fast was this person going in reverse? (And / or I'd love to know what their blood-alcohol content had been at the time.)
Not sure about the "scrapped" my car comment. Either Ali is impugning the value of my car by implying that the cost of the paint damage exceeds the value of the car itself, or if they just don't spel gud.
Haven't quite decided how I want to handle this yet...
We didn't get sideswipped, but this weekend we went to a local park. Of the 50 or so open parking spots, a minivan chose the one that was directly next to our car. There were 6 cars in the lot, all scattered, except for us...and the stupid minivan.
Haha. I thought about buying some large traffic cones and topping them with blinking LED lights to denote the boundaries of my space.
Actually, with the holiday season approaching, maybe I could put a Christmas tree in the corner of my space that s/he needs open to back the SUV through, and if anyone objects, claim that they're trying to suppress my religious expression.
Just put a CMU block at each of the rear corners of your space. They're nearly worthless (no fear of theft, but you're out $1 if it gets stolen), and it should make being an ******* less convenient to Ali.
Other considerations: Make sure the parking garage either has good cameras or isn't frequented by drunk douche bags.
