It's just a literal overlay. So that one can compare directly the latitudes of Europe to North America. Most murricans don't realize how high Europe is.

Yeah, the gulf stream is what makes northern Europe actually habitable.

That particular map is also useful for demonstrating to Europeans just how big the US & Canada are.

That's what blew me away. Having spent time in Germany and The Netherlands in fall / winter / spring, I'm really surprised, having seen that map, at how relatively moderate the winters were there.

Same goes for Turkey / Greece / Italy / etc. Rome is at the same latitude at freaking Chicago?!

By comparison, it's no wonder that Spain / Portual / Morocco are so awesome.

When I was in northern Scotland, it didn't really get dark until well after 11PM. And the sun was up by 4AM.

This could help a little - it is the earth's ice and vegetation cycle for a year:

This was about 9:30PM in the town of Onich, Scotland, about 2 hours north of Glasgow. That's Lock Linnhe in the background.

Never experienced anything like this before. I've had severe respiratory distress associated with allergic reactions when I was a kid, but this was different. No itching, no runny nose or red eyes, nothing at all other than a feeing of "holy ****, I think I may literally be having a heart attack." I'm still a little freaked out that this has gone on for three days, but at least I do not appear to be dying.
What you described sounds a lot like a heart attack, and just because you didn't die, doesn't mean you didn't have one.
Next time, call 911.
Most EMS departments do a 12 lead on the spot.
If they say you are having a heart attack, go with them.
If they say that everything looks normal, just refuse transportation.
My local service doesn't charge for non-transport call.
Even if they do charge for a 12-lead, it won't cost much, and it's worth knowing whether or not you had a heart attack or not.
