I remember thinking it was a pretty rad movie when I was twelve. I doubt if I could make it through the whole thing today. Definitely one of films where it's probably better to remember what it looked like through the eyes of a child.
As a retired B-52 Radar Navigator, it pains me to say the Navy has always had better aviation movies. "The Bridges at Toko-Ri" comes to mind. "Twelve O'clock High" doesn't qualify as an Air Force movie. At least we have "Strategic Air Command" with Jimmy Stewart, and, of course, "Dr. Strangelove"...
