Ah, brutalism.

San Diego isn't eastern Europe, but we had a lot of that where I went to school:

While not professing to be a scholar of architecture, I was introduced to the Brutalist style by way of being a student at the University of Florida in the mid-late 1990s, wherein there are several example of the genre on display.

Personally, I happen to quite like the genre, and by extension, Bauhaus as well. I find the simplicity, and "form follows function" mindset to be refreshing, not to mention that the style inherently lends itself to the use of materials which are robust and long-lasting without much in the way of upkeep.

Now, this isn't to say that I don't also appreciate Googie, and Avant-garde, and even Modernist / Mid-century Modern (especially with regard to interiors and furnishings), just that those styles all seem a bit overly-complicated in terms of construction, maintenance, and upkeep.

What are they going to do with anti-tank missiles and long-range artillery?
