That looks like a real pleasure to work on. I bet you even get to buy a special tool to change the spark-plugs.

Something has been bugging me the whole time I've been on-board:

This is a Finnish toilet, installed on a German ship which is owned by an American company and is registered in The Bahamas. The first thing which I deposited into it was the remains of an Italian dinner served to me by a Dutch stewardess while flying in a French airplane over international waters.

What precisely constitutes a "foreign object"?

That's called a bidet, and no, it does not have one. Just a standard marine vacuum toilet.

(Incidentally, I rather like bidets. If you've never really had the opportunity to use one long-term, you don't know what you're missing. Have you ever felt the need to take a shower simply because you were all icky down there? Don't lie. The bidet completely prevents that from ever happening in the first place.)

And it's official. The German and Meyer Werft flags have been lowered, the Bronze Rodent has been handed over, the Bahamian and Disney flags have been raised, and we are now part of the fleet! There was much pomp.

We're also finally allowed to discuss the Atlantic crossing, finally. Any New York residents are welcome to watch as the ship sails into New York Harbor and docks at Pier 94 on the Hudson the morning of Feb 28. I've no doubt they will be giving the ship's horn a workout.

The horn is actually about a dozen horns, set up to play various music. The first two ships (Magic and Wonder) both play the first bar of "when you wish upon a star", andthe Dream and Fantasy are able to "answer" with the second bar of the song whenever they meet in port. They are also MUCH louder and deeper, and hold the final note for much longer. In this video, the second horn, which is louder, is actually coming from the other ship (skip to 0:25)

(You can't see me, but I'm standing up on deck 13 forward of the Dream in that one.)

This one is kind of funny, actually. It's Magic and Dream meeting for the first time at Castaway Cay on Dream's maiden voyage. I was up on deck 12 for this one, and I remember it vividly. Magic can only play the one tune, but Dream has about a half-dozen. We embarrassed the hell out of them (though in fairness, they started it.)

(Be sure your speakers are turned up at 2:00)

(and 0:40 - 1:20 is hilarious if you're familiar with the rivalry that's grown between these two ships. Oh, hell. Just watch the whole thing.)

Long story short, when the Dream or Fantasy arrive in port, they let people know it. The last note of "Be Our Guest" is bowel-shaking if you happen to be out of deck when they play it.

I actually didn't know what those devices were called, could see that being a nice treat sometimes. Unfortunately for me, I'm that lucky 1 in 100 who have uhm, "issues" after eating post Laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Terrible, Terrible issues. Ever had to plan your entire day around eating food/visiting a bathroom?

More amusing I've learned a few new things about different cultures and religious beliefs/views/procedures when it comes to using the toilet.. Islamic toilet etiquette says you can't touch or wash your ***** with the right hand, and leaving should be done so starting with the right food while saying a prayer: "Praise be to Allah who relieved me of the filth and gave me relief."

Not to mock religions or anything, but LOL...
