------- LOVE that top. If only it were practical for a street driven car. One that might need weather and theft protection.

Weather is one thing but I quit keeping anything of theft value in my miata so it'd be great. Vandalism might be another story, though.

Well, yeah. Vandalism is what I meant. I leave my doors unlocked usually, I would just be worried of some ------- dumping a drink or spitting in my car with it like that. I work in the party district of Birmingham, right across from one of the busiest bars, so that ---- wouldn't work at all.

I'd pay $150-200 for it, but it would need to have its own support, as I have no roll bar. Love the way it looks, would be badass for long drives/autox days, or just driving to work.

$160 - Bikini Bar (Standalone Kit)
Standalone for Rollbarless Cars or Bossfrog Doublehoop
-2x Powdercoated Receivers with Stainless Steel Hardware
-Bikini Bar to work in conjunction with your G-String
*$10off when you order with your G-String
I'm not sure I see the point, really. Total cost, if you include the bikini bar and a prepped OEM front header (rather than scavenging your own) would be $625, which is more than a Robbins zippered glass-window top, including the defogger and a new rain rail.

For that, you get something which is more work to put up and take down and offers protection against neither rain nor drunks.

Probably worthwhile for a dedicated AutoX car just to keep you in the shade, but I'm not sure I'd put one on my daily driver.

I can't make up my mind on that top.. Price is obviously a HUGE turnoff.....

Secret confession:
I love everything about that car, even the wheels. Tell no one. What do those little flippy running boards do? How far do they go under the car and what is their aero purpose?

Did you watch it? It was meant for MT.net from 1:28 to end.

The point is that is looks freaking awesome. I love it.

But the website is tough to decipher. You tell them what rollbar you have and they send you a "kit" to fit it (or to fit their standalone hoop if you don't have a rollbar). You provide your own front bow (or can buy one from them). Then you take it to local upholstery place and have them sew the top to your bow? I still don't know. Then you hope it all fits.

or...

You it looks like you can send them a front bow which they install, but there is no price listed for that, no turnaround time listed, nothing to help me figure out what exactly they sell?

There are no details on how exactly the top secures to the bow or how complicated the process is. They say "professional install recommended", but there's no additional details.

But, it's the only option I've heard of for that look, and I've never seen a DIY one of these. With a cornered market, low volume, they can charge what they want.

It's $350 with shipping... which I think is a bit much, but not over the top.

A junked top from a junkyard should be about $30, and then whatever hourly rate from a "professional" at a local upholstery shop to sew it all together I guess. I wish the website was a bit more detailed.

EDIT: I love it... they've got YOUTUBE videos and a few how-to's that answer all of my questions, but no link on their website.

No reason a "professional" is required for this. Seems pretty straightforward.

I can make up my mind on that top.

literally. that sh1t would rub my scalp until brain was exposed. my head is over the rollbar.

There's a group buy on them over on cr.net:

http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=42016

At $225 for material only. (updated on the last couple of pages)

I pulled my haggard soft top out when I put my hard top on, so I have a front bow to scavenge. Installing the material on the front bow is cake once you actually pull one apart and see how it's done, and you shouldn't have to take it to an upholstery shop.

I really dig this thing for an emergency 'limp home' top, plus a sunshade to keep from getting a sunburn on my bald spot on long cruises in the mountains. I would just pop up an E-Z Up on the grid if I was that concerned about a little shade on a dedicated autocross car, though.

I would buy that after bolting an Elise seat to the floor.

At $625 for a bikini top I'll stick to unzipping the glass defroster window on my canvas Robbins top - at $150-200 it would have been worth it to keep the car nice and cool during auto-x days or longer "touring" days

And here i thought that thing would cost 150 bucks... maybe even less since that's how much its worth.

Nevermind, lol.

I've made that sort of top before (have an industrial sewing machine). I was actually thinking about making one of those about three weeks ago but didn't know anyone was producing them. I bet I can make a decent one for a lot less than that.
