I'm glad he went public. Hopefully this is a lesson to auto makers.

Someone set him up the bomb...and then he had no chance to survive or make his time.
That really sucks.

i thought that was a given? you race, or mod your car you can pretty much expect your warranty to be done for?

Hm he's posted that on a lot of forums!

What happened to him is pretty fucked up, but on the other hand it seems unreasonable for someone to expect the warranty to cover wear and tear on a competitive race car.

Maybe the mfgr should offer a race warranty, with conditions for people like him.

Or you can be like me and buy a $400 car and make it competitive.

As I read it he asked the person in charge of MINI's performance area and he said it would NOT void the warranty to go AUTO-XING.

He did not take it onto a track. He followed the instructions he was given, and now they are saying the instructions were false and voiding his warranty. I don't see how they can void his warranty when he made it a point to make sure it was ok to auto-x before buying the car.

MINI is just a bunch of peckers. I know plenty of people that had their S2000 transmissions replaced under warranty after destroying them on the track. and honda knew.

I feel for him, they're very competitive in that car and its really sad they bent him over like that. Hopefully they get it worked out, but its not looking good.

Uhm, Is that why speed3/6, WRX, STi, EVO, and SRT owners get assfucked for modding their cars too? Happens all the time, especially here in KC.

Quoting Mike:

You know, when I heard Subaru (Who used to actually give out a free year membership to the SCCA with a purchase of an STi) started voiding warranties for those who actually used it, I thought I heard it all.

BMW is guilty of the same double standard bullcrap. They have spent countless dollars on promoting that the Mini is a good weekend racecar. That it can do amazing things, even unmodified ala Itallian Job, etc.

Look what your car can do!?! Now, don't do it.

THey get assfucked cause they mod and launch at every stop light. Driving the car the way it was designed to be driven and then generating more power than stock is not the same thing.

He should have gotten that guy to put that in writing.

old news... If you aren't smart enough to know that companies will **** anyone they feel like to save a buck, you shouldn't have enough money to survive life in our current society.

I'm not a car insurance specialist, so this doesn't make sense to me. Why would they cancel my coverages if I didn't make a claim from something that's not covererd?

If I wreck the car on the street, what does that have to do with what I did last weekend on a track?
