I am getting really close to buying my first pistol and taking a CCW permit class. I shot about 500 guns yesterday (took a friend who thinks he's Dirty Harry) as well as rented a KelTec P32 and shot 50 round through it. I took my wife to the range today and rented the Keltec again for another 50 rounds. She wants one. They are $339 at the gun shop but I keep reading about people getting them for like $250. I found one online for $240 but my gun shop wants a $75 fee to get it shipped to them (online dealers can only sell to other dealers). There is a local gun show coming up in a few weeks and I'm thinking this may be a good place to buy this gun. Any suggestions?

(I'm not asking for suggestions about getting a different gun. This is the one we are definitely buying.)

 

i love my little kel-tec.

but shop around intown first. the guns shows here are MORE expensive than any shop in town. and remeber, the prices at the gun store are flexable. just haggle and walk out if needed. i only paid $270 for my p-3at. paid $395 for my taurus 24/7 and the sticker said almost $500. the problem with gun shows is that most people don't do enough research and get ripped off because they think they are getting a good deal.

the one bad thing about the kel-tecs are that they are carry only guns, dont plan on going to the range to have fun with them. but my stays in my front pocket when i am not at work. awesome guns to carry all of the time.

 

I have been to several gun shows, they are always an interesting experience. I would suggest checking out gunbroker.com to see what prices for the keltec are going for. You should be able to get to close to those prices at the gun show. Also make sure you check out all the boothes before you buy one. Prices can vary between vendors.

 

Hmmm, have never seen them before (of course, I've never purchased a gun). Every bought anything from there? I'm assuming it is just like ebay (some good some bad luck)...

 

you have to have it sent to your FFL, so their crazy high fee is added to that. i would find another local store if i were you.

 

Been to a bunch of gun shows, and actually feel they are overpriced, but you also find stuff that you can't find at a bunch of places. I have a Glock 19 that I love, I think it's confortable, and very acurate. Recommendations? I would say the newer style glocks...I think 1 is called the M24 or something? 9MM comes standard with 15 round clip. I can put all 10 of my 9MM rounds on a 6" plate at 50 yards, but 15 rounds for the same price? I'd say it's a bargain. I also like the Walther's.
Pick something that is comfortable in your hand, not heavy, and holds good capacity.

guns shows for me are more for amusement, i find you're probably more likely to do better at a a local shop unless you're looking for ancient **** or authentic ex military. It's pretty funny to see people walking through the parking lot with rifles shouldered

A clip is used to feed rounds more easily/quickly into a magazine. Much like a speedloader is to a revolver.

There. You happy now? And anything over $300 is too much for a Keltec.

I said my gun shop wanted $75. My FFL (found online) wants $15. I know 1000x more now than I knew in my first post. I will know 1000x more tomorrow than I know now...

 

hell yeah, good deal man. welcome to the gun sickness. a good site to look at is AR15.com. even if you are not wanting a AR, there are sections for everything and a TON of great info. they even have a kel-tec section.

 

Gun shows can be pretty interesting. Back 10-15 years ago there were more interesting "characters" than you'll see nowadays, but it can still be amusing. Especially when it comes to what people think their **** is worth LOL. You can usually get a decent price, but definitely comparison shop.

A .32 is just a tad smaller than I'd choose for a defensive handgun. Sure, it's better than a pointy stick, but look at it this way: if you knew for certain that you were going to have to defend your life tonight, would a .32 be your choice? There will always be some tradeoff between power and concealability, but if you know you like the Kel-tec I'd suggest looking at the P3AT. I'd much rather have 6+1 of .380 than 7+1 of .32, and the P3AT is still small enough to disappear in a pocket.

If you knew that in the next 10 years you would have to defend your life one time, would you carry a 32 every single day with no one knowing you had it and no inconvenience to you or would you pick a few days to carry a 357 magnum so in the case that today was the day you could kill the bad guy in one shot. Yeah, I thought so...

That's a red herring as I mentioned nothing about a .357. But it's cool if you've got your mind made up. It can be difficult to find a gun that both you and your wife are comfortable with. The more you like it, the more likely you are to carry it and that's most important. You should be able to carry one away for $270 at a typical show. They're priced low enough to begin with that you won't save all that much buying used versus new, but $220-240 is typical for lightly used ones. Kel-tec has good customer service when issues arise.

 

Gun shows generally suck unless you really know your stuff and can avoid all the fake "bargains" that are really ripoffs. That being said, I got my P3AT with parkerized slide for about 249 at a gun show back in I think 2003 or 2004. I don't remember, it was a long time ago. Right now prices for most guns are insane because everyone is afraid the dems and obama will pass new gun control.

Kel-tec has pretty much set the standard for self defense firearms. In terms of size and caliber, it really can't be beat. I like mine even though it isn't a pleasant gun to shoot.

 

You should've seen the looks on the faces of the people in the hotel I went to with my old post's color guard. I was walking around inside with an M16A2 at the low/ready.
