Default Anyone here ever have surgery?

I'm going on the cutting board tomorrow for a new ACL. This is my first surgery, not sure what to expect. I'm hoping I am just too messed up on medication after to feel anything.

What if I never wake up and my cat wonders where I went?

Hate it for ya. I've also never undergone surgery and don't look forward to the first time either. I'm a big baby when it comes to that kind of thing, and I HATE needles. Good luck to you, I don't imagine it will be that bad in your case.

Apparently they are gonna put a tube in my knee and inject massive quanities of novacaine into it. That should be good. I don't think it will be too bad, minus the fact I will be driving an automatic truck for some time.

My only surgery I had was when I snapped my ligament in my wrist. Worked with it popping out of the socket for as long as I could, and then just said the hell with it and had it done. All my other injuries were broken bones that just needed casts or cuts that needed stitches.

Best advice I can give you is, let someone else hold onto the pain pills afterwards. I've never ever been into pills, not even just talking drug wise, I'm talking Motrin and Advil too. But those ******* pain meds had me all fucked up man. I was like a different person. I remember feeling like I was going to go ******* crazy if I didnt take them every couple hours. That went on for a couple weeks but I ran out eventually and had to deal with it. At the time though, I was taking madness.

Good luck with the ACL! Ohh, and make sure you have an empty stomach before they put you under.

Vash,

Were you taking the amount they told you to? I have only had hydrocodine once before, and that got me pretty goofy. I hope I don't turn into a pill addict, that doesn't sound fun lol.

lol

I wouldn't quite say I was a "pill addict" by any means.

The doctor gave me a script and I took them, but then it started to hurt, so I took more, and so on. Well once the pain was starting to go away I felt like I still wanted the pills. You know how it works....

I just wanted to clarify that this was a brief period and I eventually ran out and life went on. I haven't taken even a over the counter pill since the surgery.

I had a collapsed lung in high school. Taken to emergency where they injected some freezing stuff into my chest, and then he took the scalpel and dug right in. Stuck a big tube into the hole he just cut, and I was then hooked up to constant vacuum for 2 weeks while my lung healed itself. Probably the thing that hurt the most was feeling my lung reinflate itself in the chest cavity (it had been collapsed for more then a week - misdiagnosed as a lung infection). Surgery really isn't a big deal, it's just the mind game of stress. Only advice I can give is stay focused and calm, and stay off the meds if you can.

Came to as is woke up from the anesthesia?

I woke up and the first thing I remember is the doctor handing me the pins he removed and saying I was good to go.

I was put under for my wisdom teeth, but don't let the whole idea of "falling asleep" actually make you think that you fall asleep. You're usually awake the whole time, but you'll have no idea what happened. When I went for my after surgery check up I said something like "wow it was great, I just fell right asleep". Surgeon yes "actually you talked the whole time, we couldn't get you to shut up". I asked him what I said but he wouldn't tell me. I'm guessing I hit on the fat nurse...

Bond, i actually JUST ******* TORE MY ACL on friday. Had my MRI today, and headed back to the Dr tomorrow morning to find out if i do or dont need surgery.

This will be my 4th surgery if i have too, don't be scared Orthopedic surgens sp? do this procedure on a almost regular basis. The only thing i am really worried about is my lifestyle. I snowboard, rock climb, skateboard on an almost daily basis. I also work on my feet. :(

Recovery time is ~ 6 months to get back to "100 %" the little research i have done on it leads me to believe my knee will never be the same again.

As an ex-pill abuser, I can say that pain meds are the most fucked up thing I have ever experienced, they make you feel like such total **** when you stop taking them. Imagine the worst hangover ever, except it last for days...

I had wisdom teeth removed, that was messed up. Put under, wake up it feels like 5 seconds later. Mouth swollen as ****, blood dripping from mouth and you never feel it. That sucked.
I was in a wreck once and I broke 3 vertebres in my back, broke my ribs, my collar bone, got a concussion, and collapsed my right lung. It was awesome. I was so doped up on meds I sat there and watched the nurse pull my cathedar out of my dick, and never felt it. In fact, I don't remember feeling 1 ounce of pain, except when I dealt with the healing of my collar bone, but that was mostly discomfort.

Not to feed the bad vibes, but anesthesia awareness scares the **** out of me. It is my luck that if I ever have major surgery that I will be paralyzed and aware and feeling pain but stuck with no way to tell them to stop cutting you open. "I'M AWAKE! STOP!"

I had one surgery before, was minor and they used general anaesthetics. After about 7 sec when they injected the stuff, I just was out. Not really like falling asleep, it was like the switch just went off real quick. Woke up about a hour later, seemed like 10 sec. Was pretty cool, I felt all heavy and loopy and everything was funny lol. good times until it wears off. Didn't remember a thing too.

Flush your pain meds, buy a case of Jack and smash the empties in the street.

Dude, don't they do EEG-montoring in the states?
You know, we can see your brainwaves now the anesthesiologist will see the signs of you coming too long before you are aware.

Had my wisdom teeth removed, and had a laproscopic appendectomy in a tent hospital in Kuwait... Neither was too bad. I found out after my appendix was out that they will not release you from hospital before you poo; I was there for four days.
