If I remember right, here's how it will go.

Day starts at 0530 with reville, 15minutes to get up and be outside in PT gear for a 3mile run.
Showers, dress, and uniform inspection to follow.'
Breakfast.
Classes all morning: Uniform standards, Naval History, Rank and Rate Structure, Leadership, etc...
Afternoons: tours of ships, installations, drill and sword practice, hands-on type ****.
Evening: dinner and a small amount of personal time, maybe a second helping of PT.

Overall, not very stressing, just full days and no time to rest. You'll get yelled at and made fun of but your instructors. There are some mind games that go on. Just try and learn as much as you can. Your interaction with the Enlisted folks at the school are not typical of how it really works... but it's going to be a great learning experience for you. I look forward to hearing about how things go.

 

Well I assume that the Enlisted don't always make a habit of yelling at officers. Although I know here it will be that way. Sounds easier than USAF Basic... which was not all that hard, actually USAF basic was kind of fun.

I figured out how to get my Cell Phone how to act as a broadband connection for my laptop (not all that hard actually.) So I may have Internet Access while in OIS. Something I don't intend to advertise to the Cadre, but saw no prohibition against it or my laptop.

Fortunately I don't even have to pull out the Cell phone. I can leave it locked up while I connect to it over bluetooth. Although I suspect I may be too busy to play on the Internet.

I've tried that before Mark with my Treo. Works, but it kills the battery FAST.

bluetooth tether works pretty well if you dont mind the high latency. miataturbo.net should work fine.

 

Leave the laptop in your car until you're sure you can take it in. In fact, don't take anything in with you the day you're supposed to report except the items they specifically say you SHOULD bring... it might end up being confiscated and you won't get it back until the end of training.

 

I do all the time.

 

Laptop is on the approved list. Bluetooth and cable connection to the Treo 700 seems to be working very well indeed.

AF/Navy.. they're both shamtastic IMHO. I mean.. you can bring laptops to OCS? WTF? I wasn't allowed even outside books and magazines until after basic..
