If you are just beginning to explore these things, try to keep an eye on the 'style' of the beer in question as this can help you find other things in a similar vein. These days style guidelines are just that, guidelines. Not everyhting will fit perfectly in "the box" of a particular style, but that's the fun part about trying new beers :)

I think I saw somewhere that a 22oz bomber of one of these big imperial stouts (double digit ABV) runs something like 800+ calories . . . EACH!

Yeah, they add up with a quickness. The alcohol alone is worth quite a few calories.

yep saw both of those at srpouts today where I got the choco stout.
and yes, that's exctly what I'm doing: so far I like many porters, many stouts, and lately have tried some really enjoyable ales and red ales.

I never drink to get drunk anymore, so a beer has to be ALL about the taste. sipping type stuff, never gulping or downing. and I don't drink just to drink. I am obsessed with trying different styles and tastes, that's the most important part for me. stuff with coffee, chocolate, etc. and lately I've really enjoyed stuff with really mild fruit undertones. not too sweet or fruity, but refreshing with a hint of fruit. something that really surprised me was blue moon peach. pyramid apricot ale too

Haha, yeah. That was my stash for the weekend.

The also make a Banana Bread beer which is good. Mix it with the Choco Stout in = proportions and you have choco banana bread beer.

I even got our local pub/beer palace type place (350+ beers) to put it on the menu.


And to whomever posted the BOMB, Prairie fucking rocks. Awesome guys (local brewery) and basically everything they make is killer. If you run across their "Bierrica" it's an awesome Raspberry sour.

Have not had their Bierrica yet, but I was pleasantly surprised with their "OK-Si", which is an imperial stout aged in tequila barrels. I was a little unsure because it sounds like it would be kind of a weird mix, but the tequila influence was just subtle enough that it made for a really interesting taste which was actually quite good. I do agree though, everything I have ever tried from Prairie has been noteworthy.

BTW, thinking along the lines of your choco-bannana bread stout instantly made me think of Highwater Brewing's Campfire Stout, which tastes like S'mores.

This weekend was a great example of why a lighter beer is a must when drinking all day. 10 Dale's Pale Ales will leave you with shit mouth and water butt...the opposite of what you want in life.

The following day, we classed things up a bit with 30 Miller Lites :idea:

Wow I haven't had a youngs double chocolate stout in forever.

Having this tonight,

Alcohol is strong, was expecting hoppy but it delivered on full bodied taste as per the long queuque on the bottle states.
