Really really good, totally worth the $2.50 a can that I paid. Will be buying more. Also was appropriate for the evenings entertainment.

Monks Blood is a super solid offering, I just wish it was avalible year round. There is nothing about the phrase "Belgian Strong Dark Ale" I don't like. ;)

Fireside Chat is another good seasonal from 21st Amendment if you can find it.

I think I've mentioned Sneak Attack previously, I've always got some stashed somewhere.

AlwaysBroken: what diameter blow off tube are you using? With the big Trappist style beers I've been using 1" ID tube and a 2g pail for an airlock

AlwaysBroken 09-25-2015 11:19 AM

I found that if I take the cap off my airlock, a 1/2 ID tube fits exactly, but I used a 3/16ths gas/liquid tubing this week and it was fine. I think 3/16ths is fine with supervision, 1/2 is completely safe and 1 inch tubing is insane overkill. I'd be more worried about insects or small rodents getting up a 1 inch tube.

Personally I would focus less on the diameter of the tubing and more on the rigidity of the tubing. I was afraid of using 1/2 ID silicone because it's too bendy. The beer/gas dispensing lines for your corny kegs are good with pressure and they won't ever kink and stop the flow of yeast. A kinked silicone tube will block yeast and then stretch instead of pushing the yeast out.

Tonight I went for another tasty sipper from Prairie. It's their Pirate Noir - Imperial Stout Aged in Jamaican Rum Barrels. As with every other beer of theirs that I've tried, it's quite delicious and very interesting, but too damn expensive.

I hope you like it, but that was the worst beer I have had from Stone, and I have had almost everything of theirs.

It ended up being a drain pour. I was surprised because I like their normal imperial Russian stout quite a bit, and I also like chai tea.

+1000

It is actually the ONLY beer I've ever been seriously disappointed with from Stone. I honestly don't know what they were thinking.

What a waste. First time i've been disappointed with Stone as well. It's getting me kinda drunk and it smells really good but the taste is friggin weird.

If you want to sample something which will quickly redeem Stone's reputation, try to see if you can find one of these from the Stone Collaborative Series, called: Stone Farking Wheaton w00tStout

Spent a few hours at Bells proper on Saturday.
Had a few flights.
Uranus stood out as being exceptional in particular.

Uranus is wonderful.. err..

But seriously, I really liked that when I visited the eccentric cafe.

I feel like I want to buy 4 bottles of the w00tStout and open one every 3 months or so. It tastes like something that would get better with a little age on it.

Precisely! I keep trying to put some down in the basement for a bit of aging, but I inevitably give in to temptation and drink them in short order. I've literally purchased a batch of 3 or 4 of them on 3 separate occasions, but have yet to keep them for any period of time.

The current release is the third (V3.0). I missed V1 and V2, but I imagine a vertical tasting would be great fun with this beer . . . that is if I could just keep my hands off of it long enough to do it. :giggle:

Tonight I'm enjoying a porter I picked up in Denver last May. A little thinner than I prefer, but quite tasty.

The wife and I took the kids and the Miatas to the Hopworks Handbuilt bike and brew fest on the weekend. While I love Hopworks Urban Brewery beer, they had the Gigantic brewery Imperial IPA, Ginormous - an absolute favorite.
