Cinema Paradiso. It's in Italian, but worth your effort to read the subtitles.

Best in Show. Yeah, I heard that there were people who haven't seen it yet.

Harmony Korine creates some fucked up **** ("Kids" anyone?). If you're in a for a dose of good 'ol Americana, I'd highly recommend Gummo:

Between the kids hunting cats to sell to the Chinese restaurant, the guy pimping out his retarded sister and ghastly dialogue, Korine sends a clear message: middle America is a horrifying place. The children scare the absolute **** out of me.

Original Italian job? Or even the new one if you've been living under a rock.

I debated whether to include this along w/ Rushmore ancd Tenenbaums. I honestly found Life Aquatic to be a tad lackluster. I'd probably rank Darjeeling Limited above it, though of course any Wes Anderson film is probably worth watching.

Joe's recs are great. A few I haven't even heard of and I've watched a few lifetimes worth of movies already. Hudsucker Proxy is a great one as well as the Royal Tenenbaums.

Anything on the IMDB 250 list is probably worth watching. Take your pick.

Hudsucker and Tenenbaums are definately a couple of my favorite films, though that breed of humor must be an acquired taste (like Materva) as some folks just don't seem to care for them at all.

And Sneakers... good one. Redford's second great hacker movie.

Just remembered another good one you should see: Human Traffic.
It's a goofy British flick from the 90s, but it's definitely worth watching.

A Serious Man
The Graduate
Sivaji
Oldboy
The Dreamers ( pretty much Eva Green naked the whole time )
Rescue Dawn
Shoot'em up
Stalker (1979) - Some people might find this movie boring but I find it pretty brilliant. Anything by Andrei Tarkovsky is pretty much a winner.
Funky Forest
Blade Runner
They Live

I'm surprised no one has mentioned:

Eraserhead and Blue Velvet.

Fight Club (though that's no longer as obscure as it used to be).

Seven (another one that's become popular, but easily missed).

But if you want really obscure but interesting movies:

Tampopo (the first "noodle western")
Wings of Desire (great role for Peter Falk)
