I'd suggest staying as far away from any base in texas as possible. You want Eglin or Hurlburt or if you like mountains Buckley, Hill, or Kirtland.

Travis is an hour + away from Thunderhill and Sears Point (aka infineon raceway) and about 2+ hours away from Laguna Seca.
2 hours from snow skiing and an hour away from surf.

When I was going through basic it was either this or CE for those that didn't secure a job beforehand.

Eglin is alright if you like beaches and partying. Tampa/Orlando is 6 hours away, Panama City is about an hour. You're going to be driving 4 to 5 hours at a minimum to find a racetrack, though. And there aren't any autox events closer than Mobile, AL. There is at least a decent sized mazda crew locally, though most of them are MS3/6 owners.

If you chose CE you can goto Travis, they have a pretty big CE squadron there, and just like what Joe Mama said.

The Texas tracks are great and all, but I'd pick-up and move to Cali if it weren't for the "socialist government taxing it's residents into poverty" thing.

If your AFSC was not secured AND clearly written into your Enlistment contract *prior* to you putting pen to paper, you a subject to the whims of the USAF. Can you say, "Food Services", "Security Forces", or "Transportation Specialist"? (Read: Cook, cop, warehouse forklift operator) - Good, I knew you could...

With the USAF's current DEP, nobody signs their exact contract till the day they ship out, so you're not 100% correct. I may pick security forces, I have tons of friends in it, its a love it or hate it job. My general pick was mechanical so if I get nothing picked before I leave to basic, I'll still end up in the mechanical field afterwards...

In all honesty, I don't care much about the first job as long as it's not completely a waste as I will cross-train once I can to something with a TSC.

All in all, what I'm trying to say is, my Enlistment Contract gets signed the day before shipping out and I hope to God I'll have a secured AFSC on it (beforehand we all just signed a preliminary contract at meps)

And once again, thanks to everyone giving me all the info about all these bases. It'll definitely help putting together my dream-sheet.

What's stopping you from getting a TS/SCI job now?

I had some "disorderly conduct" incidents prevent me from taking certain jobs my first enlistment. Everyone does dumb **** when they're a kid. I still rule at life.

Sometimes its for BS reasons.

A good friend of mine was re-classed to supply when they saw a GTA on his record. The reason for the GTA is when he was 18, he took off after a heated arguement with his parents, the car wasnt in his name and they reported it stolen.
