Rafa, you might want to block out all the personal information, don't pull a Hustler! :)

Now I'm curious. What is the deal with selective service when not a citizen? They can't call a non citizen to serve can they?

They absolutely can. Its a condition of your status of your green card or whatever paperwork you had to obtain to legally enter the country.

Two separate things being discussed here.

A "green card" means that you are a legal permanent resident. You're not a citizen, but you have many of the rights (and obligations) of a citizen. You have to pay taxes and register for the SS, but you also have the right to stay as long as you wish, travel freely in and out of the country, etc. Green card = immigrant.

A Visa is a completely different thing. They are temporary, and are issued for a specific purpose (work visa, student visa, tourist visa). As it says right on the form, if you are here on visa, you are not required to register.

Many thanks for the help. :bigtu:

Yes, if he doesn't want to be registered. Looks like he got registered somehow filling out forms (driver's license maybe), but he IS eligible to de-enroll due to visa status.

If he plans on staying in the States after he finishes school he might as well stay enrolled.

Damn gospeed; your analysis makes a lot of sense. I would presume this happened because he had to fill a lot of forms to get his US driver's license and had to wait 2 months for the definitive form.

This part is also something he now would have to think about. His original plan wasn't to stay in the States but some work doors are opening and he's beginning to consider it. You say that if that were the case, he'd be better off staying enrolled in that program, right?

Many thanks to all for the assistance :bigtu:

You know Jay, I thought it would be appropriate but; it's a scanned document he sent me and I didn't know how to do it :bang:

Most of the international students I know that originally planned on going back home have found great job offers and are now going to stay here. Once you acclimate to the different culture it's easy to feel at home.

Once he applies for green card or citizenship he would have to apply again. I'm pretty sure I've sent in multiple Selective Service forms between voting registration, driver's licenses and school. And I'm about to no longer be required to.

Im a legal permanent resident. I got register when I filled to fix my status and when I applied to FASFA.

He'd been there many times before (he even went to a summer camp in SC a long time ago). He likes the lifestyle.

The thing about the MSS forms in his case is that he's 24 (pursuing a post-graduate degree) so he'll be 26 by the time he finishes school.

BTW gospeed, if you ever go up to Dallas, let me know so I can ask Manny to meet with you.

Many thanks for the help.

I honestly wouldn't bother messing with it then. It's really just a formality to have a draft pool. Will never happen, and if they did call you they would give you an opportunity to verify eligibility (age, residency status etc.).

lmao damn that explains a lot. I never filled that bullshit out. Fuck war.
Each country should have a ninja squad formed of people from that country to fight other ninja squads from other countries. Now that would be fucking cool. Like George Carlin said "you could pay-per-view that shit and balance the fucking budget!" :bowrofl:

He's pretty busy with his studies but I plan to visit him in the not too distant future. I'll take that opportunity to drive down south.

El Alzheimers te afecta de verdad. España es nuestro país de origen. You've seen my Avatar ;)
