Dead link, Atanas.

Also, can you recommend me some creatine? I'm leaning out right now and doing another cycle of Insanity. I want to keep strength/muscle loss to a minimum. I'm carb cycling on lift days (150g's carbs) doing Wendler 5/3/1 and then flipping my fat/carb macros for off days. Off days I do Insanity as early morning cardio.

Right now I'm just taking my BCAA's and Isopure Whey. I'd like to start creatine. Green Mag and Storm seem to be really good carb free, sugar free options.

My inner bro-science said, "don't take that shit". So, I google'd it and had this guy scream at me and make me feel like a dumb ass, lol.

Vashthestampede 12-25-2013 08:41 AM

Boxing is one of the best ways to stay in shape.

I used to have to force myself to wrap my hands and get going, but eventually it becomes a routine.

Going to these shit holes that people call gyms is a complete waste of money and time. Get yourself some weights and bars, a pull up rod and a heavy bag.

I have the most unorthodox workout routine, but between that and concrete work during the week, I'm in the best shape of my life. No gym, no wannabe bullshit. Just discipline and results.

Leafy 12-25-2013 12:22 PM

You got a review for a good pullup rod? I cant use one of the door frame ones in my apartment, I need like an expanding length one to go in my high ceilinged hallway. I used to just use a 2x4 on an unfinished doorway in my parents basement before when I did them at home.

Creatine will make ur body hold water so you'll always appear "chubby". Long story short though if you're not really carrying for that 6 pack beach body and just focus on losing fat then stay on it so you hold water. It will help u keep some strength and once you stop it the water will go away. The main thing about creatine though is some peoples bodies like it, others cant and get sick off of it.

The link is a FB link. I guess my buddy has the settings set to private.

Tossed it on YT.

God, my bench press sucks. My OHP sucks, too. Doing Wendler 5/3/1 around improving those two has been successful so far. Mother fucking weighted dips...god fucking damnit I've never been so sore in my entire life.

Yesterday I woke up and couldn't sit up to get out of bed. My entire stomach and obliques were completely shot. The culprit? Dumbbell rows. I started doing them Dan Green style and letting the weight go all the way down to about a 1/2" off the ground and then yanking that shit up. The stretch you get on the lats is unreal and your stomach is working overtime. 5 sets of 10 with a 105lb dumbbell has got me in so much pain.

Yay for new shit!

mgeoffriau 01-03-2014 01:25 PM

Off the wagon the last couple of months. New job is great but not nearly as physically active as my previous job, and I've been so lazy that I stopped my 3-days-a-week push-up schedule THAT MY PHONE PROMPTS ME FOR. I slide the notification away and feel sad.

I think I'm going to go through Pavel's KB book again. Sometimes variety isn't good. I just need to focus for a while. Swings and TGU's should do it.

Scrappy Jack 01-03-2014 02:22 PM

Awesome job, VoM. I'm skeptical on the low 6-minute mile, though. I feel like a low 7-minute mile is pushing it for me, but I've never tried to only run a single mile.

Vash - Did you not notice the fact that he lost as much weight as I weighed when I was doing amateur Muay Thai fights? What you are doing works for you; awesome. But don't be a douche and tell him he doesn't know what he's doing.

I've decided on my first two fitness challenges for this year.

1. Get down to 10.x% body fat, as measured by my scale, before the end of March. I'm currently right around 15% after combining the holidays with insane work hours with being sick on-and-off for weeks.

2. Finish the 2014 Life's a Beach Triathlon for Slackers in under 60 minutes. My first event was 1:14 (top dude was 0:46), my second was 1:03 (top dude 0:47).

I'm working on another one that's Muay Thai related since I am starting back up with training.

kilik2 01-03-2014 03:27 PM

Viper hit me up when you hit low 5s brah...and deadlift 510. bbc genetics checking in, lol.

Supps are fine, keep doing your thing man. Everyone has an opinion but last I checked you're making gains and haven't slowed down yet.

Vashthestampede 01-03-2014 04:56 PM

Scrappy, you're right.

Good work Josh and you've definitely come a long way, so keep up the good work. If the supplements help and you don't go overboard with them, then more power to you.

Leafy 01-07-2014 11:38 PM

Bro's in home pullup bars for hallways that are apartment friendly (no holes in the wall), and dont require a door way. Also 41" wide hallway. I cant find shit for that.

So... Speedway Panhard Bar Kit - Speedway Motors, America's Oldest Speed Shop And some welded up plates to catch the rod ends anddistribute the load on the wall is my best plan. Objections?

triple88a 01-08-2014 12:45 AM

Go to the hardware store and get 1 1/8" - 1 1/2" water pipe instead?

But how to I make that expand into the wall to hold with friction? And I'd need a pipe threader because none of the off the shelf lengths would work.

Braineack 01-08-2014 08:51 AM

I was going to bolt my strut tower brace to a joist in my basement...

triple88a 01-08-2014 08:52 AM

Ah i see you want to expand it in the wall. That wont work man, drywall wont hold ur weight under continuous use.

Leafy 01-08-2014 08:54 AM

It will if I put it on the stud.

triple88a 01-08-2014 09:00 AM

If u plan on doing a good pullup routine, i'd suggest something hard mounted to the studs.

Braineack 01-08-2014 09:08 AM

so you wanna put your panhard bar into a stud?

rleete 01-08-2014 09:11 AM

I have this chin up bar, that screws out to fit a door frame. Chromed steel tube, with rubber pads on the ends. The ends have become quite hard, as I've had this thing for decades. I suppose a piece of silicone rubber would help pad it better, and make it "stick" in place. I never use it anymore.

I'd like to offer it up to someone who will use it.

I'm going to have to pick up the pace on this one in February and March. At my current pace, I'll only be mid 13s.

Nice. 40lb is no joke.

Since I've trained Muay Thai for 6 or 7 years (off and on) at this point, I'm solidly intermediate and more experienced than the majority of folks at any given gym I've been to.

With this new interval training stuff, I'm a total newb and not very strong naturally so it definitely has a humbling effect when you see girls working with heavier weights than you. :noob:

Big shoulders will make you look very intimidating. Front delts will make you look little like a boxer. Big rear delts will make you look big overall.. more of that bodybuilder look. The one trick though, lateral delts are needed for both.

That just made me walk crooked for two days.

[Two bulging discs that press on a nerve cluster in my lower back.]

viperormiata 02-01-2014 05:12 PM

I had a bulging/compressed disc from playing sports in high school. It's one of the reasons why I train my back so much and the main reason I got serious about losing weight. It's the most disabling feeling. Training my back for strength has done wonders for me. Improved my posture, the way I walk, the way I sit; making my core strong has alleviated nearly all my back pain. Is your injury too severe to do weight training? I was lucky enough to avoid surgery, so all I needed was 6 months of therapy. Then I got fat, lol.

I do rack pulls and deficits conventional, but I'm still too scared to pull heavy using conventional stance.

Fun fact: The most common deadlift injury is a torn bicep

I'm going to try 455 again in two weeks. I need to work on hip posture for lock outs. My bar speed is perfect, but I need the hip drive and posture chain power.

I'm totally with you there on the back pain thing. My back and neck only hurt if I stop lifting heavy weights. My chiropractor told me to NEVER lift any weight that would compress my spine. I ignored him and started doing deadlifts and presses and squats and feel nothing in my back when I lift. It's awesome. I think the huge load on my core actually pulls my spine back into alignment.

Last night at the gym (GOLD'S GYM, where a bro's a bro), some dude was actually doing bicep curls in the squat rack.

I was all like "What the fuck are you doing? That's a squat rack, BRO." in my head.

He had very large arms. I didnt want to get put in a headlock. Don't be silly.

I believe that keeps you from "cheating" on curls.

triple88a 02-11-2014 12:39 PM

I can understand people using the squat rack for bicep curls as long as they have no other options. The common however is people using the squat rack to curl 65lb-75lb.. instead of using the straight curl bar.

If he's doing straight bar curls its acceptable, half the gyms I've been in really dont have a spot to use a straight bar that isnt a bench press setup or in a squat rack.

Yeah, some gyms dont have straight curl bars. Its much easier to do them at the curl bar holder rack though.

You do your curls then you move off to the side. If people cant wait 15 seconds for me to finish my 120lb curl set then thats their problem.

Then why are you even using the curling rest? If you're not going to leave the bar on the curling rest just go put it on the floor in the corner somewhere and curl there. You've still made a squat rack useless by taking the bar out of it, so you might as well just use the squat rack.
