U're misunderstanding me. You use the curling rest, you lift right in front of it, then you put the weight back and move off to the side while u rest.

Then why use the curling rest at all? If you're going to have to put it somewhere while you rest whats the point.

And that still doesnt help the fact that you've made a squat rack (or bench press) with no bar in it in order to do your curls.

This is a curl bar rack. They also come with straight bars. It has nothing to do with the squat rack or a bench press at all.

Only half the gyms I've been to have those. And normally they only have the curling bar ones and not the straight bar ones.

y8s 02-11-2014 03:38 PM

OK to be fair, he was using a 45 lb olympic bar with (I wasn't staring so this is a guess) at least a 25 lb weight on each side.

He probably didn't have much options beyond the weird press-rack thing with a seat (he was standing) and maybe the floor (which is totally an option--who can't deadlift what they can curl?).

And our gym is seriously short on bars. I keep ending up with a chalked up, middle knurl bar for squats and it drives me nuts and gives me a bizzare C7 callus.

Try front squats. You'll leave traditional squats forever.

triple88a 02-11-2014 05:08 PM

My suggestion, do heavy standing curls (without swinging of course) with the crooked bar first. Then do seated curls with the straight bar.

ever notice the 20.4 kg on stamped on your 45lb. plate?

it appears they are 4x25kg plates, plus the bar, plus the two clamps at 2.5kg each = 130kg.

I've done 260lbs. and then I got sick for three weeks, missed the gym for a good month and dropped back down.

When were you ever?

Your diet game is looking a little soft. Let's get you back on point.

Speaking of which...I'm bloating like crazy and have been sick for the last week. I was 211 (water weight) before my morning deload. Should be be back tp 201-199 in a week. Then probably another cut as I start conditioning training to prepare for my insertion into Obama's Great Muslim Brotherhood Army Militia of Holy Divinity.

So, almost done my first week of p90x3, the new p90x. A few things I've learned. While its possible for a man to get a good workout with resistance bands in the original p90x and in x3 they say you can, you cant, you need dumbbells. 2, if you are thinking of doing x3, you need to do at least run through all the original p90x videos and learn all the moves. Preferably you'd graduate p90x first, because fuck all. I'm not as tired at the end of the workout but I'm toast some times during it. I dont know how anyone could do x3 without being used to how p90x workouts worked. The first fucking day would not have even been close to possible if I hadn't gained a crap load of balance from doing yoga, and I wouldnt have even tried yoga without p90x. I also like how x3 they just give up on making you follow a specific diet, its just eat healthy (your own personal definition of healthy) and manage the calorie intake for how you want to shape yourself. Otherwise, I like it so far, besides the new 1/2 hour long yoga. Its just not enough time, and its just not nearly as hard. I think I'll do the normal p90 yoga and cut out the yoga belly x part.

Oh and my magic bullet broke, so I'm drinking terrible lumpy warm gross protein drinks.

Went to the gym last night looking to take revenge on that 455lb deadlift I missed last month....and I got it. Went pretty smooth.

Also hit a 365lb squat this morning. That brings my current total up to 1070lbs between bench/squat/deadlift.

Feelsgoodman.jpg

Now I'm gonna diet down back to 199lbs or lower. Currently sitting at 206-210lbs because I started eating to get stronger faster (shit works, lol).

Long term goal now is to have a 1150lb total at 190lbs or lower body weight.

triple88a 03-02-2014 02:43 AM

Man i gotta try my 1 rep max on bench. Pretty sure I can push 350. 315 is starting to be pretty solid now.

I was taking assault for a month, took a month off. Then got back on assault. then another month off. Then hemo rage. Another month off. Then started taking White Flood.. 2 weeks after taking white flood my liver started failing.. 2 weeks after that jaundice, bilirubin level at over 8 parts. etc. after 3 months recovery and 2k worth of doctor bills later i find out that the makers of white flood were getting sued for using low quality veterinary ingredients in their products. Theres a reason why they came out with an "all better 2nd version" junk.

Yeah no thanks. I just started taking Xtend and O.N. Amino Energy. Decided to just dump 3 scoops of each into my gallon jug and add my normal scoop and a half of Green Magnitude creatine. Shake it all up and drink it during my workouts. That's about as far as I've gotten to taking a preworkout, lol.

There is a dirt hole gym in old town that has a 1200lb club record with no ones name on it. I'm really thinking about trying to snag it and get my name on the wall. Right now my total on paper is 1080, but that's with an old 250lb bench. The gym owner says you can wrap your knees and wear a belt, so I'm sure I can easily manage a 415lb squat and probably deadlift 485-500lb no problem....just gotta get my bench up because the owner wants it paused. Even on the high end of my squat/deadlift I'd still need a 285-300lb bench...fuck.

Started low bar squatting and I fucking love it. Please enjoy my glutes in HD.

Well, did the mock meet today down in Key West this morning. Overall I am super pleased as I squatted 405lb and deadlifted 475lb. Both are personal records. I fell flat on bench today missing 255lb twice sadface.jpg I didn't make the 1200 board but I am just scraping at the teeth of it.

I only got decent video of the deadlift, but the squatting was intense. I opened with 365 w/o knee wraps and blew it up ass-to-grass. Then went to 405 w/ knee wraps and mis-grooved. This was the first time I've ever had 400+lbs on my back and it was terrifying. Not to mention I was using an unfamiliar bar and rack AND having to do a long walk out. I took a 3 minute break and attempted it again. I was a tad high but it blew the fuck up out of the hole. The owner called it a good lift so that's all I cared about, lol. Dude is a total bro and will call a good squat as long as it's low and you put your best into it.

Next was bench pressing and I just fucked it all up. Opened with a paused 225 and it flew up. Immediately went to 255 and got stuck. Total mis-groove. Took a break and did it again....same thing. Decided to call it and just move on to deadlifts to save energy.

On deadlifts I opened with 405 and it was easy peasy. I was getting tired so I immediately went to 475. Decided to jump to 500 after taking a break and I just broke it off the floor 3-4 inches. Couldn't get it so I tried again a few minutes later and didn't even break it a second time. I was wiped by that point.

I'm pretty fucking happy with two solid PR's and I'll be doing this again in a few months to get on that fucking 1200lb Club Board.

triple88a 03-30-2014 06:00 PM

Very nice man, keep pushing on the chest and you'll get it.

viperormiata 03-31-2014 10:58 PM

Thanks, Atanas. I'm pulling out all the stops now for chest and just focusing on getting a higher number. We have a 50lb set of chains at the gym now and I bought a Sling Shot to help with overloading and working the groove. Today was my first day using the chains and I was really shocked at how much they made you work at the top. It was really fun using the slingshot with the chains to really overload at the top.

Keeping it simple as far as accessory work, just dips with chains, decline bench and close grip bench.

I decided to try Clint Darden's AC/DC method after doing my Wendler 5/3/1 routine - 340x4, 390x3, 430x4. It was completely exhausting but a really fun experience. Counted +/- 38 reps of 225lbs. Not too shabby, haha.

After having the worst deadlift session of my life and missing 460 three times, I had to do something to make up for it. I pulled 455 for a double conventional 6 days ago and I barely got +5lbs to my knees. The second attempt I didn't even break it off the floor. The deficit is 3.5-4 inches and the weight is 415 + 45lbs in chains.

Small world indeed! You have nice depth. Just watch that butt wink!

Edit: Decided to try a beltless deadlift cycle to improve my form and not just grip&rip. I have a big problem with not being patient off the floor with deadlifts and it's the main thing keeping me out of the 500's.

Not too excited, but I'm very pleased with my speed once the weight breaks the floor.

I passed my final CPA exam on 8/31 of this year and decided to get back into going to the gym in September now that I had time. Kind of fucked around for 2 months just trying to get into the routine of actually going. Then I decided to get serious and started Ice Cream fitness. I'm on my third week now and this shit is addicting. I have really altered my diet and am riding the noob gains for now. Feels good. Progress so far:

5x5 Bench - 135lbs -> 150lbs
5x5 squat - 155lbs -> 170lbs
5x5 Bent over row - 100lbs -> 120lbs
1x5 deadlift - 135lbs -> 170lbs (I started light on this because I didn't want to fuck up my back)
5x5 standing press -> 60lbs -> 75lbs

I think that is everything minus accessory lifts.
