I got a novel idea: I'll sell my car for $2k and buy a new prius for 30K at $350 a month.

Now I only pay $50 a month in gas. which is basically free for 40 months since i have a new reserve of $2000 cash. So basically buying a hybrid is like getting gas for free for 3 years.

I did the math once while I worked for Toyota, it made more economic sense to buy a new 5spd Corolla (around $15K) than a base Prius (around $22K) even if the Prius did average 55mpg (which it does not with most people) for anything less than 7 years. We all know the average american consumer buy a new/er car every 2-3 years.
