Default Cat likes eating shoelaces and strings

Does rubbing orange oil or castor oil work as a deterrent?
Anyone tried the above? Is it long lasting?

Anything I have ever tried just makes them angrier and fuels their rage towards my shoes.

Give them better toys to chew?

Replace your shoelacces and give the cat the ones it wants most?

Our cat doesn't care what toys you give him. He doesn't care how awesome you treat him. He only cares about destruction of shoelaces and clothes lol.

Oils didn't phase him, he rips laces into pieces in about 3 seconds. 2 chomps is all it takes.

I thought about Kevlar shoe laces...but I was afraid that it might hurt our cat. We also tried giving him shoelaces so he wouldn't eat the ones in our shoes, and that was the worst thing we did, he now sees all laces as toys

If it's an issue for dress shoes, just get monks/double monkstraps.
