I'm really hoping this information can be abused.

Why do people up North (and in California?) not finish their garages? i.e. No drywall and unpainted/textured ceilings?

i think it had drywall at one point [one of the three walls does at least]. not sure why it was removed. probably so he could find the studs better to put those shelves up -- the po wasn't the world's greatest handyman.

it's something I want to eventually do; I had to first wire it power around the workbench.

Fire code probably requires drywall on the wall contiguous to the living space. Outside walls don't require it.

It is meant to help stop a garage fire from getting into the living space too quickly.

It looks like it may of had drywall on it at one point. Im not sure. most of the houses in the neighbor have it, a few that I've seen dont. I'd like to add it along with a little insulation to make the garage just look nicer overall.

Because the spaces between the studs is where you hang the rakes, shovels, etc. Why would you want finished walls in a garage anyway? It's a garage, not a living room.
