Charleston, SC this weekend!
I'm taking a plane down there tomorrow for a mid-afternoon arrival and leaving Sunday. I checked out a couple "events" websites and there's nothing really happening in town that peaked my interest. We'll have a car, so an hour drive isn't out of the question, but Columbia is probably too far.
Anybody have experience/suggestions for tomorrow night and Saturday?

When I visited Charleston back in July, Lars ignored me. Sniffle. At least his excuse was car-related.
Charleston has an outdoor market with food & artsy craftsy stuff on Saturday at Marion Square (King St & Calhoun St). Not sure if it's every Saturday or seasonal or once a month, and it's not as interesting as Pike Place in Seattle for example, but it's something to do if you need to kill an hour. There is a cigar shop across King St from the square that had a couple of Opus X vitolas priced at MSRP (that's as cheap as they get) but otherwise the selection of their walk-in left a lot to be desired.
Hyman's Seafood is south of there on Meeting St. Good food and lots of it for the price, good place if you're taking the family.
If you and the wife feel like dropping dollars on a nice dinner, High Cotton was great. Magnolias was pretty good too.

Sam are you going alone or with wife, or with kids. If you like seafood I highly suggest Hyman's seafood. It is probably the best seafood in town. Just be prepared to get there for an early lunch or you will be waiting. The market is also a fun place to kill a few hours.
If you want to see some Navy History you could check out the USS Yorktown.
For drinking at night, King street tends to be a bit cheaper and more college oriented. Market Street tends to have classier and more expensive bars.
Right now the weather is looking like Thunderstorms all weekend. If it does start raining the downtown area does flood some so watch out for that.
I will probably be pulling off my turbo Saturday to fix some oil leaks, so if you want to wrench any you could come over.

^You got that right, I **** Liquid Wrench and **** Gojo.
I'm headed down there with 4 other heterosexual (but married) males... and we have to maintain some semblence of respectability. The military in general is really cracking down on random acts of retarded, especially from officers.
The odd adult beverage or 5 isn't out of the question, but getting tanked and starting a brawl with the local Air Force douches is no longer in vogue... ahhhh, the good old days.

They were closed for some bullshit Jewish holiday yesterday, and when we went by today the line was down the block... went to High Cotton, and it was adequate, but not worth the price. Got hit on by eager cougar at the bar, glad to see I've still got my magic.
Was hung-over most of the day, relaxing at the hotel now, might go for a run. If our plane won't start tomorrow (extremely likely in 40yr old Grumman aircraft), I'll give you a shout, PM me your cel, maybe we can grab chow. We're a the Best Western next to the Citadel.
