^This.
And sadly, no car that we lusted after in our childhood is ever as good as we remember it.
For instance, the woman still, to this day, thinks that she wants a while, second-gen (FC) RX7. And yet, as compared to her '08 Mazda3, she finds my '04 Miata to be "uncivilized."

This is for sale by a friend of mine here in Portland. He bought my '95 Caprice Classic LT1 wagon 6 years ago, and sadly has been given the ultimatum from his wife to slim down to only one gas-hog wagon. The people and drum kit handling capacities of the bubble wagon cannot be denied, so the S6 must go

2002 Audi S6 Avant. An Allroad on crack - $11500 (Mt. Tabor)
Hey there, new parent looking for a car for your growing brood. Been looking at minivans? They're great, practical as hell, roomy. But what about a wagon? Wagons are rad, and you be a fool not to consider something sensible like a Volvo, perhaps a Subaru or similar with all wheel drive to take to the mountain. SUVs are an option, but man, they're SUVs, and who doesn't love a wagon? Have you checked out an Audi Allroad? A great car: quick, fun to drive, comfortable, safe, hits all the right notes.
But what if there were an Allroad that looked a little meaner, sounded nastier, and drove like supercar? An Allroad on crack: that's the S6.
With an Allroad, you'd be pleased. It's a fine car! Nothing to regret. It's just missing some things. Some soul-stirring things. Some . . . fun. Like dual exhaust, rev-to-7000 rpm, no-turbo-lag German V8 fun. 340 horsepower-to-all-four-wheels fun. Some glued-to-the-pavement, flat-cornerning, can't-believe-I'm-driving-a-wagon fun. On average, some 17 mpg fun. (But hey, gas is cheap now.)
Insanely fun to drive, no doubt--but people, this car is safe. Great crash ratings are a given, but perhaps the most underrated safety feature is its braking. This car has stopping power that will reset your understanding of phenomenal braking. Combine traction control with Quattro AWD, monstrous go-go and braking, and baller suspension, and you have a foul-weather dynamo of an automobile. The ultimate NW family wagon.
Creature comforts are nice also. How about cold AND hot weather packages? Given, heated seats in front, but for the kids also in back? Check.
Hot weather package: dig these solar panels in the moonroof that power a cooling fan when car is parked. How is it that this black interior/exterior car parked in the summer heat never gets that hot inside? Those crafty Germans!
The car has a couple of cosmetic blemishes (see rear quarter panel photo dent behind wheel) but mechanically fantastic and runs beautifully. Beautifully fast.
It's been very well maintained, and I have all recent service records. Timing belt and thermostat replaced at about 90k; plenty of life left in tires and brakes. More details if you need it. Also just detailed, primed for your kids to imbed sticky Cheerios all in its nether parts.
This car will not disappoint you--and the littler folks in the back won't mind either.
