and of course he selected "Mazdaspeed MX-5 Miata" for the model because while we're out to lunch we might as well have a drink.

m.net special

1999 Miata 10th Anniversary Edition - $13000

1999 Mazda Miata odometer: 20422 paint color : blue type : convertible drive : rwd fuel : gas transmission : manual title status : clean cylinders : 4 cylinders

condition: excellent

1999 Mazda Miata 10AE. 20,4xx miles (yes, under 21k miles), excellent condition, driven on weekends when the weather is nice and stored away each winter. PS, PW, cruise, Bose stereo with clearwater speakers. Top has no flaws. I purchased this car in January of 2007 with 9,143 miles on it. Since then it has been tuned up (plugs, wire, etc.). Additionally, new tires were put on at around 18,000 miles (only because of the age of the tires) and the timing belt and water pump were replaced at 19,869 miles (due to age, not because of any problems). The only modifications this car has had is the Clearwater speakers and I also replaced the horn with an air horn. It has been pampered and needs nothing to be a daily driver, or a weekend car. Spring is around the corner and this car is fun!

I'm confused. With so many listed so high, do people actually pay that much for them, or do they just not sell until the prices come down? I mean, I think I overpaid for my '02 when I bought it 6 years ago for $8k, but I haven't looked at prices since then.

I pay a premium for low mileage like that 10AE, but that's a bit much IMO since the AE is not actually a package I'm after.

Yeah, I was willing to pay a little extra because the car was in great shape and had the options I wanted, and relatively low mileage. I still got it under my max budget because it was at the older end of the range I was looking for.

Iono... The 10AE is my favorite special edition. Second would be a '95M in montego blue, then '01 BRG SE. But of course the BRG is the best for performance what with the brakes and VVT and such.

I've just gotten to a point though where low miles just doesn't mean that much anymore. If you pay that much for that car with those mikes, you're going to cut the value in half by driving it a reasonable amount, and it's not like it's more reliable, been sitting too much.

Am I the only one that feels they made too many "special" miatas making the whole lot of "specials" seem less special? Sort of like when I see a pace car corvette, I'm like "oh look, stickers and yellow seats! Special!" The miata doesn't seem far off.

Besides paint color and some numbering, is there really anything you could get on a special miata but not on a regular one?

Miatas being abundant means it's really not all that special to have low miles, there's lots of low miles out there in hiding still. For someone to start asking so much more than any other miata must mean it's somewhat desirable and collectible, maybe an investment. I don't think that will ever be the case for the reasons above...

Well, in 99 the 10AE was the only way to get the 6-speed, same with the 2000 SE. They also had the 3.9 torsen not available on anything else at the time. In '01 it was all about BRG but that was the only distinction, and they went downhill from there in terms of specialness.

Overall though I'd have to agree.

The market for sub 50k mile miata's is steadily going upwards. I watch the pricing section on m.net and you can see that. There is decent size group of people who have cash that want perfect low mileage cars.

So nice we scraped it twice.

That's a large turbo. 500 rpms of "useful" power?
