When I used to sell internet (back in the stone age) we always told customers that downtime was already figured into the bill. Apples and Oranges with daycare though.

You probably won't be in full laugh mode though. School ends at 2:30pm and if you're paying for daycare now, you'll probably be paying for after care then. It's still painful, just less.

When we were shopping for daycare, I saw/interviewed the "cheap" places and immediately understood why the good ones are substantially more expensive and had waiting lists. I generally believe that's why the parents suck it up and just pay the bill since they'd essentially forfeit their spot as there's always somebody wanting in.

some public schools have afterschool programs that are relativley inexpensive compareded to daycare. The school where I work has such a program.

That is besides the point because school is not in session right now.
