I bet it's the starter, you should replace that.

New starter still doesn't explain why it died in the first place.

Some of the new aftermarket starters will have a "ZING" to them.

Who knows, I'm not questioning it because it runs/starts well now. Considering I had to jump the car that first morning it died on me on the road, and the way it was sort of intermitent when the tow driver was able to jump it and so was I that second time, I'm assuming the solenoid was behaving oddly and shorted out majorly while I was driving on its own.

yeah, it makes a new distinct noise that im not used to and turns over very quickly now. (doesn't help that I have a completely blown motor mount.)

Now I can wait out being the first owner of a used 2012 Ford Focus ST...otherwise, if I had to get something today, I'd get a used Mazdaspeed 3.

Used turbo Veloster. You can get one for pennies next spring...

Braineack 07-23-2012 08:51 AM

I don't want to be a 30 year old white guy driving something made for 16 year old asain kids with bleached hair and flat brimmed hats.

and it's still a hyundai and cant compete is terms of performance, comfort, cargo room, mpgs, and fun factor when compared to the focus st.

chpmnsws6 07-23-2012 08:52 AM

Sorry, I forgot how old you were. Not sure if they have a cane holster. How do your hips hold up to pushing the clutch? :D

Braineack 07-23-2012 08:53 AM

I'm thick boned, dont you worry. (at that's what my mom told me)

Braineack 07-23-2012 08:55 AM

You own and drive a Miata. Your homosexuality has already been confirmed.

Braineack 07-23-2012 08:59 AM

I dont own a miata. Joke's on you!

let's just say the veloster would be the nail in the coffin. And right now, I'm like Will Smith and Tom Cruise in terms of questionable preferences.

I'm going to jinx your ass and say it will reoccur again soon. I don't understand how the starter would cause the initial issue. I'm still betting on a bad cell(s) in the battery, and you just jostled it around enough to make it start working again for the moment. I've tested many a battery with a load tester and had a battery pass, then test it again seconds later and have it fail... then again and it passes, then fails, so on and so forth.

I'm feeling negative today, so I jinx you!

Braineack 07-23-2012 09:18 AM

I was listening to Gwar today. I turned the sub up and the windows down.

I have until Oct before my 2 year warrenty on the battery is exhausted.

you know what "ST" stands for in car parlance?

GT is Gran(d) Touring

GTS is Gran(d) Touring Sport

ST is "Secretary Transport"

So

good luck!

Braineack 07-23-2012 10:31 AM

I heard it was super tard.

Braineack 07-23-2012 02:35 PM

looks like the veloster does win in MPG, and it can come in matte gray. that's kinda cool.

still. after seeing them up close and personal at the car show in Jan, I crossed it off my list.

I am surprised you can't ordere a veloster "murdered" and with stretched tires.

seriously, flat gray?

they must have done some consumer focus groups 5 years ago when it was also lame.
