The wrecks have been getting more and more frequent. I think each time I go, I stop more often to help a downed rider. Last year, Killboy had to watch this guy's bike while we ran him down to the Deal's Gap Store because he couldn't bear weight on his ankle. Luckily, he and his cruiser ate it on the mountain side and not the cliff side. Good thing was that I got to scare the **** out of the rider on the way down because I was in my grocery getter and also scare the **** out of his buddy on the way back up to pick up the injured rider's bike. They weren't used to being on the Dragon on 4 wheels. Other good thing was that the rider's group thanked us and called us "angels" for stopping to help and for flagging down traffic. The 5 vehicles in my group had radios so it was easy to co-ordinate traffic control. They had recently lost a member to a bike-related accident so they were really worried.

Anywho, I'm with mxv and rmcelwee... huge freaking signs with flashing lights telling semis and that bitch with the station wagon who's trailoring a boat to NOT lane cross and go another route and for the county to try and catch me... until the cruiser radios to the other units to lay down spikes at the end of the run.

Here in Charleston, we have to drive a good 4 hours to find a road with anything that resembles a curve in it. When I lived in WV I used to curse the damn roads because there were too many curves in them. It took forever to get anywhere and you would get stuck behind people driving 20 MPH. Would I like to live at the Gap - hell no. Do I visit 3-4 times per year to play - yes.

The Dragon is extremely dangerous. I had the opportunity to chat with a tow truck driver the last time i was out there, and he told me about all the fatalities and serious injuries that occur on that 11 mile stretch of road. He said that what we hear about is only the tip of the iceberg. Mostly motorcycle accidents.

If I can offer a quick tip to anyone headed out there. Go on a weekday. Saturdays and Sundays are a madhouse. Everybody and dey momma is out there with a Harley.
