I have read about serious gang rape in that country before. Were they ignorant dumb? I don't know.

 

He explains why he didn't have that with him later on. But basically, if you DO shoot someone, you better have enough bullets to kill everyone in the village. Because they're all coming after you then. And your getaway speed is like 5mph lol.

 

At least a hand winch even! I can see not having a 105 pound electric winch off the bumper, but a 5 pound hand winch is stupid not to carry. We carry those in our trucks even when just going to the barn! I also would have run a set of better differentials like a set of torsens for that trip. Not as much strain as a locker, but can get you out of some sticky jams.

They do have far bigger brass ***** then I though.

Well that is a good point.

 

What an amazing story. I would absolutely never take my girlfriend to the jungles of africa though. Judging from all the times he got out of mob situations the guy must have a real strong personality.

 

As much as I'd like to visit parts Sub-Saharan Africa (throw some **** off Victoria Falls, cap a lion in Tsavo, etc.), I don't think I could after briefly dating a white African girl from Zimbabwe and hearing her stories. I wouldn't feel safe unless I could buy an AK-47 and a tank from Viktor Bout.

 

Africa is amazing, but I did it with guides, and went to safe countries like Botswana and Zambia. Zimbabwe was slightly sketch, but still wasn't any where near what the Congo is like.

If you possibly can go there sometime in your life, I highly recommend it. Not many trips are life changing, but visiting Africa certainly changed me.

Awesome read. Impressive that the LC almost made it though without serious mechanical damage too. I won't drive to the grocery store with an open differential let alone through the Congo.
