Hey, that's one of those savannah cats Brain mentioned. They look cool.

muoto 02-08-2012 06:47 AM

as a matter of fact that's Bengal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bengal_cat

I'm trying to find a savannah. Anyone have any advise or experience on this particular breed.

rleete 02-08-2012 09:09 AM

While having a special breed could be cool, I think it's better to go to the local rescue place and find one that like you. I've always done that, and never had any behavor problems or health issues.

The best pets ALWAYS come from the shelter, and they're usually mutts/ mixed breeds. We've probably has 10 shelter dogs over the years, and only one of them was a problem. She had some pretty serious separation anxiety, but we would probably still have her, except that she liked herd the neighbors out of the yard, and it was just a matter of time until she nipped at a child and we had to put her down.

No. The Savannah would be as big as the miata.

There's a local breeder here in town actually and the reject kittens go for a good price (reject meaning not good enough to show).

But, as much as a I want a pure bred, I plan on rescusing the cats no one wants.

Lol, I have 99 pictures of my cats uploaded on my facebook page.

Do they breed Savannahs?

Don't get me wrong, I adopted a dog from the shelter, and she has turned out to be a great dog.I will probably be getting another one.

As far as a cat, I know what I want. I never really planned on getting a cat until I saw the Savannah.

This does happen though it's not as general as your roommate makes it out to be. I'm allergic to the dander of fur coated (shedding) animals but not ones with hair, most dogs have fur but some (including mine) have hair that needs cutting as often as peoples. In my experience all cats shed but not all produce the same degree of allergic reaction, long hair are WAY worse.

That said I've seen that I like male cats better in general because the ones I've met play more rather than just sitting. My aunt did have a male that was a complete jackass though, he would bug you to pet him then bite and run away when he'd had enough.

Female cats do tend to be more affectionate in my experience, if that's what you're after.

yeah, that's what I meant: http://www.dumaexotics.com/ & http://www.spotonsavannahs.com/

Honestly, I like the bengals more than savannahs looks wise. Keep in mind that I have not seen a savannah in person, but I have seen bengals before.

Bengals look cool, but Savannahs are as big as a horse. You know what other "wild" breed is cool? The Toyger.

They are bread(sp?) to look like tigers:

I haven't had a cat in years now. My dog is not really cat friendly.

The last one I had went with my roommate when he moved out. Kittie (her real name) bonded with him, and stayed in his room at night. I didn't think it would be right to seperate them.

I miss that old Kittie, she had a personality like no other. She is still kicking and biting peoples toes to this day.

Bengals arent small by any means, but I agree. Savannahs are huge! I would love to see one in person sometime. The toyger looks pretty neat as well.

I'd love a savannah, but he'd probably eat my cat. They're also like 5k for a kitten :(

-edit: YT link didn't work. Tried posting from my phone, nevermind.

Come on, Why wouldn't you want one?

Braineack 02-13-2012 08:54 AM

Both are crossed with a wild cat; the Savannah being crossed with a Serval and the Bengal with a Leapord Cat.

I just think since the Savannah comes from the Serval, is has that distinctive slender wild cat appearance, where the Bengals tend to look like a typical shorthair with jaguar-like patterns.

I'm more of a sucker for cheetahs than jaguars, so I lean towards the Savannah :)

NA6C-Guy 02-13-2012 08:58 AM

I don't think it's really attributed to the sex, but in my experience, male cats have been better pets. By better, I mean more fun, friendly and outgoing. Every female cat I have had has been less friendly and sort of anti social and snobby acting. My last female cat would hardly ever have much to do with me other than meow at me when she was hungry, then she was off again. My last male cat was awesome, as he would always see me on the couch and would jump up and sit next to me and watch TV, or would sit next to my keyboard while I was on the computer, and would come in my room in the mornings and lay on my chest and pur until I woke up.

I love it! I haven't had a cat in years, and want another, but my current living conditions don't really allow for it. When I get one, one of those are in consideration.

I want a Savannah sooo bad.
