I posted at Mnet regarding OBD2 trickery... here's the latest response. What is with these people?!
"federal charges"!?

I dunno, man, seems like he's just trying to give you an idea of the difficulty of getting things like this past smog. Sounds like he's pretty knowledgeable and has perhaps "been there, done that."
Have you ever dealt with a custom, modified car with smog ***** in your state?

OBD2 is starting to look like a PITA, but I won't let it get me down.
Worst case scenario, go back to stock for a week or two before smogging. Not really that big a price to pay for two years of crazy power. Mani, turbo, oil feed and return, dp & exhaust. Shouldn't take more than a couple hours to swap back.
But I know some states (maybe all, I dont know) say if its pre-74ish that is doesn't matter, or maybe its 25 years old. I can't recall.
Man, I love my trees and clean air, I'm gonna run a cat, sheesh.
Wouldn't you know it... I bought this car, spent a weekend working the paint out, ordered oil pressure gauge stuff, Tbelt, heater core, and now I see a 95M on craigslist for less than I paid for my 96M.
But, correct me if I'm wrong, I think I see a ray of sunshine.
The AFM (what do you guys call them, anyway?) could be left on pre-turbo. Minor intake restriction, but the solution is more boost. Possibly tweak on the AFM to keep from triggering a CEL. Install LC-1 in the front O2 sensor fitting, clamp the narrowband output from the LC-1 to prevent CEL.
Still with me?
Clip the injector and coil outputs from the OEM ECU, hook them up to MS. Splice the MAT, CLT, trigger1 and 2, and I'm set.
Would you buy that for a dollar?

Kyle, 250 hp is do-able, building your own ends up costing more that to go with a pre-engineered kit, like the FM II.
Oh, I saw it just fine. But $4595!? HAHAHA, excuse me while I wet my pants at the joker who pays that.
The $2500 price difference vs. DIY would buy me a hard top, suspension, and a roll bar. Plus the wideband, included in my $2K budget, and the incalculable satisfaction of doing it myowndamnself and thumbing my ample schnozz at those who said it couldn't be done.
And hell, the FM 250 assumes a $400-500 exhaust setup too?!

If you don't run FM, then you are a
"Festering Scab on the Anus of Society"
What is funny is that the FMII is NOT smog legal in CA. hahha! Nobody seems to get on FM for selling "illegal/ off road only." Turbo kits to people who live in CA who WILL be driving them on the street. :gay:
Crazy question, but what do you suppose would happen if some intrepid soul made up his own BAR approval sticker? ...not the barcoded referree thing, but the mass produced decal that comes with legal speed parts?
that would definatly work.i am going to make something like that when i get harnesses.even though the cops around here if you talk fast theyll get confused and pretend they know there right."yea there dot aproved because there bolted in the stock position.my friend told that to the cop, and he was like let me see the stocl bolt in location .
A guy on Honda-Tech used to make some really sweet Greddy Carb exemption plaques with whatever make you wanted. I guess it worked out for quite a few people. As far as the EO number I am not sure what he did.
Standalone on an OBD II car is just not worth the hassle these days. As much as I'd love to Megasquirt my new Gti I am going to be running preprogrammed turbo software for the factory ECU. :(

best bet is find a local tuner shop that has good working idea of programing and OBD2 and hint them the idea about the way i think the guy i know did it was disable the OBD2 then rehook it back up to a small computer chip that when plugged into will always spit 100% good to go codes (aka no codes but still acts like it is sensoring the car). If they have any know how about programing and electronics i hear it is pretty easy to do. Only problem is gotta find someone to do it due to the big federal no no's that go beside it and if you squeel on them they can loose their shop. 50,000 dollar fine to a shop if you mess with OBD2 or put a test-pipe in inplace of a CAT here in Oregon. So I cant really get to much info on who did it for his car because he is pretty hush hush about it so it cant be traced back to his tuner.
