if it came with a CAT it needs a CAT. If it didnt come with a CAT and is a "classic" car (25 years or older and didnt come with a CAT) it doesnt need a CAT. Federal law says ALL CARS THAT COME WITH CATS NEED CATS. Thats why your cat is 80k mile warrenty no matter what company it comes from. Now if you live in a city like mine where we have no DEQ or smog regulation centers unless the cop is going to pull me over cus my car smells funny then get down under my car to check to see if i have a cat or not there is no way for anyone other than me to know I dont have a CAT. But if you live in Portland or Salem or Eugene you have to pass DEQ (smog stuff). Right now the state of Oregon only has like 3 or 4 citys that have DEQ. And again if you were to finger a shop in the state of Oregon for having taken off your cat they can get fined for 50k. Also in most states if your car doesnt have a CAT and you take it to a shop to get fixed and they lift it up and see you dont have a CAT they 'By law' are no suposta work on it (tho most will still work on it less they run a really tight nit shop)
