Enchilada Casserole

First, brown 2lbs hamburger and then toss in some chopped onion and green pepper. Then add about half a cup of sour cream, 2 cups of salsa, 1/4 cup italian salad dressing, taco seasoning, 1/4 teaspoon of cumin, and a can of black beans. It should look kinda like this:


Afterwards, get a casserole dish and spoon the mixture inside, creating layers with tortilla wraps. Spoon a bit of the mixture in, add cheese, place tortilla wrap on top, repeat process until it looks like this:



Toss it in the oven at 400 degrees and let it bake for around 20 mins. The finished product should look a bit like this:

Simplicity



Wheat tortilla. Liberal schmear of eggplant hummus. Two falafel *****, cooked, halved. Red onion, persian cucumber, red bell pepper, grape tomatos (all coarsely chopped). Sprinkle liberally with lemon juice.

Fold. Eat. Yum.

I destroyed all three of these businesses simply by discovering that they happened to make a really good nova lox bagel. Within a month, they were gone.

I swear, every time my wife and I start enjoying something regularly, they stop making it or go out of business.

At Einsteins bagel, they used to offer a sandwich called the Albuquerque turkey. It was a turkey sandwhich with avacado, black beans, and southwestern flavors with a chipotle cc "smear". We would get them every weekend.

Then one day we ordered it and the employees were like we dont have that anymore. They changed the name to the Taso-Turkey. Same sandwich, different name. I ******* hate when employees pull that stunt, they know what the **** I was ordering.

Anyways, soon after, this bagel place decided that bagels were too unhealthy and started doing away with most of the menu. They changed it to be in a wrap form and you couldnt get it in the bagel/panini form anymore.

Eventually, they removed it all together.

Same goes for the white chocolate ginerbread cookie they used to offer. ******* delicious, I remember buy 4-5 on the weekend and taking them home. Sometimes if they were out they'd bake some just for us and come back and get them fresh. Again, they pulled them and I've never seen them again. They always have really bad chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies, and oatmeal cookies, but never the most amazing cookie ever made on this planet anymore.

I barely frequent Einsteins anymore since, the menu is retarded, they try to sell salads and 1/4 bagels that have been sliced so the majority of the bread is removed.

I'm trying to remember what else like this has happened to us, its a running joke with us. Oh yeah, Odwalla Lemonaid. It's the freaking best, but for some reason, they stopped stocking in in this area. The website says they still make it and we've called them and they just said it's up to the store to make a purchase order for them. We've tried calling our stores that would stock it, but it seemed like there was a mass conspiracy to stop selling lemonade and stock up on green health juice that no one buys.

One day randomly a Safeway had it in stock, IIRC, we bought 11 gallons of it. I dont think I've ever had it again to this date. I'll try to find the picture.

my favorite deli charges about 2 dollars more for a pre-defined sandwich than they do if you order all the ingredients together.

I'd show you the proof but they must not have paid their web hosting bill.

I'm going to do an experiment today. I have to drive up towards Oceanside anyway, and there's an Einstein Bros near where I'm going. I shall have the nova lox bagel, and then we will check back in on them a month from now.

What happens when you try to order a pre-defined sandwich from them as discrete components? Does this cause confusion at the register?

In other words, if you say "I'd like a sandwich with X, Y, Z and λ," I would imagine their response to be "Oh, you want the (name) sandwich."

"No, I want a sandwich with X, Y, Z and λ"

"Yes, that's the (name) sandwich."

(etc.)

I'm sure you have figured out that I am smart enough to both know the loophole and utilize the loophole. Normally I order off-menu anyway, but if I happen to want the same ingredients as a named sandwich, I pay about 6.50 and the named is 9.95.

This works every time except with Tuna + Salami + cheese (aka The Salute).

There may be some different meat amounts that we haven't quite figured out. For example:

Combination (two meats) is +50 cents and doesn't necessarily add meat, it just divides the meat unit into two different meats. We consider this a dividing service fee. (1.0 total meat units)

Extra meat is +1.50. This might be just another half-unit of meat on top of a full unit of meat (1.5 total meat units)

cheese is +50 cents.

There IS something called "double meat" but I'm not sure how much it costs. This might be the story for the Salute and all other menu named sandwiches.

They tell us that any "salads" are indivisible and must always be sold in full meat units.

Here is what is weird: We were told by the owner that if we order a tuna and cheese sandwich and ask for the salami on the side, they will charge us a lower price. It might take them a full minute to put it on the sandwich FYI.

There is one exception to the menu: The Deli (Mortadella, Salami, Provolone). It's, I think, 5 or 6 bucks.

Truth be told, the extra and double meat sandwiches are just too much meat. So we never get them unless we're feeling like wild dogs.

I demand a rigorous scientific exploration of this phenomenon. The next time you visit this restaurant, bring with you an analytical scale. Order one object sandwich, and equivalent sandwich specified as discrete elements.

Parse the sandwiches into their component meats, and compare their masses.



So I had the nova lox bagel at Einstein this afternoon. Not bad, not great. It was served open-face, and contained a reasonable amount of decent-quality salmon. The bagel itself was unremarkable but adequate. I was surprised that they skimped heavily on both the onions and capers, which must be the least expensive components of the sandwich. It also felt somewhat indifferently assembled, with the few pieces of onion sitting sloppily atop the salmon, rather than being covered by it so as to prevent them from falling off. I get the impression that Einstein is basically the McDonald's of the bagel world.

We'll see if they're still in business a month from now. Given that I was not seriously impressed with the bagel (eg: I probably won't be seriously jonesing for another a week from now) my experience might not have been enough to bankrupt them.

though it is not above our capability to place a sandwich on a postage scale.

(refer to historical document number 387 regarding the whole foods $3.50 banh mi and the extra meat affair. summary: WF staff turned out to be too dense to get it and the ultimate solution was to get "two for $6" and simply cram the contents of the second into the first, discarding the bread. the scale came in to play as a means of determining that "doulbing the meat" was not actually increasing the sandwich by a sufficient amount of mass.)

Anaphylaxis / angioedema and death from asphyxiation aren't cool either. But I still eat peanuts, because I'm not one of the 0.6% of the American population who is allergic to them.
