Default ebay refurbished transmission

Just wondering if anybody has dealt with/used a refurbished transmission off of ebay. After pulling the transmission off my explorer for what i thought was a failed internal slave cylinder, I found out that the pilot bearing exploded scarring the input shaft. A new pilot bearing will no longer slide over the input shaft and it looks like i will be replacing the tranny. Is there any reason why I should stay away from these units? Are these transmissions shipped via freight or can they be shipped with ups(weighs roughly 70lbs)

Can't answer if they're any good or not, but a typical manual trans can go UPS.

surprisingly a transmission from a salvage yard is only like $30 cheaper than a refurbished unit. The only thing is the input shaft splines are fine and undamaged, only the tip is scarred. Is there anything i can do to avoid replacing the trans?

i was thinking of lightly sanding it but would this have any adverse effects on the tranny?

I must be in the wrong place. I asked the local salvage yard if they have Miatas and they laughed in my face.

How much are you looking at?
Maybe a local tranny rebuilder can replace the input shaft for cheapest.

a refurbished tranny is going to cost me between 550 and 600. does anybody have a rough estimate of what it would cost to have the input shaft replaced by a transmission shop?

and this is how brad scored his $400 complete torsen swap, a little bit of surface rust on the splines of the stubs and no one wanted it.

Man if its just surface rust, blast that ****** with some WD40 and let it sit a few, then wrap a 3m Scotchbrite pad around it, squeeze and spin! Do that until the scotchbrite pad is black, then move up to 1000 grit sandpaper and wd40.

I made the mistake of leaving my miatas driveshaft under the car for 3 months while the engine was out of it... Needless to say the transmission end was, slightly rusted. 10 minutes of manual labor and it looked brand damn new.
