the bigest problem in a mazda speed install wil be the ecu and electrical as well as finding a cheap wrecked MSM. it is cheaper fo rmost people to just get a 99+ or so 1.8 since they have the best flowing heads(this a slight compresion bump, and vics are the only changes made to the 1.8 since its inception in 94 thye are all physically compatible with each other). and turbo it you will make more hp and you will have the ability to say yeah i did it myself. the SS and other ecu and fuel control mods for NB's wich you have i assume, in wich the factory fuel pressure cannot be easily raised like us NA owners. unless you count pump removal from tank to install an fpr or running a return line on an fpr as easy. i hope this helps

Agreed. Mazda Put way too much electrical bullshit on the MSM. If I had it to do all over again I woulda started with a NA Miata and went from there. Also, if a Miata engine couldn't be found, I think and engine from a Ford Escort would work (article over on Miata.net about this)

Yes, and the MSM motor is nearly identical to the '99-'01 motor, so there's really no point in that swap.
