Besides my mortgage, I've always been debt free. In fact I've always had surplus!

You're a fucken dick. Just kidding. Actually, you're the man. I owe about $150,000 on my home and property, but all my vehicles are paid for. Next year I am getting married in July with a ritzy pricy wedding. How about you upload pics of your car?

Trying to sell my Miata partially to lose the car payment, and partially cause I want to build a kit.

That'll leave us with just a house payment.

This is me being forlorn for not paying off house when I had a chance...and buying a lakehouse. Stupid. stupid, stupid.

Being debt free is a liberating feeling. Sincere congratulations.

Congrats

15 more years on mortgage, and I will be debt free as well. Seriously looking to sell though and go back to renting.

Details:
42 years old, same job for 20 years, $60K salary, wife stays at home and doesn't work, no kids.

1999 - $125,000 in credit card debt (financed a business via 20 credit cards) and $40,000 in mortgage (cheap house)

2003 - $185,000 mortgage (credit card debt paid off when I sold the business) on a larger house and $20,000 truck loan

So, 10.5 years of struggle. Paid the new house off in 6 years. We live well within our means. No movies, no dinner, not much in the way of bling. I wear jeans and a t-shirt every day. I drive a $1500 Geo Metro. My wife does not work but "owns" the 2005 MX5 and 2006 Toyota Tacoma. We will keep the vehicles until they fall apart. She gets a few nice vehicles but only owns 3 pairs of shoes and isn't the typical high maintenance woman. We pay $10 a month for cell phone service and, until a couple of weeks ago, $15 a month for basic cable. We worked hard to get to this point and are good examples of when Dave Ramsey says "people think you're weird" (because you are a cheap *** and don't waste money). Tonight I will crack open the Southern Comfort and celebrate!

We got married by a Justice of the Peace (I think it was $45 or so), ate at Huddle House and stayed in a Motel 8 on our wedding night. After 18 years my wife still does not have a diamond on her finger (we both wear $50 wedding bands). We have never purchased each other anniversary presents (or Christmas, Valentines Day, Birthday, etc). DO NOT get your wife started thinking that fancy things make a good marriage. I've got some friends who are getting divorced after less than 2 years. He took her on all kinds of cruises, bought a $3000 engagement ring, gives her everything she wants. My wife knows she can have everything she wants but she just doesn't want anything (except for a Lava Orange MSM).
