You're right that it is not really a bulb. There are a lot of LED overhead lights now that mimic florescent tubes with a ton of little LED's in them. These are all pretty much standard and could be swapped out with other similar tubes in the actual light fixture rather easily and cheaply.
Oh right. yeah I've used those before. Phillips brand to be exact.
They do work, but they output isn't as good as an dedicated LED light.

Personally I findLED lights annoying. The color, regardless of K it seems and the intensity.
Yeah, we tried the LED high bays from the same company but found that an alternative LED light was more cost efficient.

High bay lighting is very different from low ceiling task lighting like in a garage. For one the angle of the output is much narrower--like a spot almost. Garage lighting is more spread out to reach a wide area from lower height. So saying that the garage light sucks because it didn't work in the wrong application is not very useful.
One other thing LEDs are still catching up on is Color Rendering Index (CRI). They might have the right color temperature, but if they have poor CRI, they will still look flat or odd in some circumstances. Generally you want at a bare minimum 80 or 85 CRI to be able to see the full color spectrum well enough that you wont hate it.
BUT EVEN THEN... CRI isn't always useful for sources that generate white light by comining Red Green and Blue light rather than a smooth spectrum. And LED (and fluorescent) tend to do that.
4200 lumens output, emf isn't too much. The cool thing is it weighs less than a pound, fairly sturdy, you could lay it around the car, attach it to the hood, use it like a shop light. Go try one, if you don't like it Menards has a great return policy.
I just had 2 more 8 foot fluorescents go out on me. And the Earth LEDs that Hhamerly linked earlier are not cheap at all in the 8ft versions ($50 a piece).
I rent, so I don't want to blow a ton of money on conversions, but if i could get 8 ft LED tubes for closer to $20 a piece I would consider it, so I could bring them with me to the next place.
Or I'll just have to go buy more flourescent bulbs.
That way it is in a thread that makes sense for easier finding later.
Has anyone else used these yet? I've been looking for some new garage lighting and I keep coming back to these. My main concerns are reliability and the 6k being too harsh of a white.
I realized i never specifically updated this thread with results of these lights.
Seriously, if money is no object. Buy these. For lighting a small space such as this or a garage they are great. And people say the manufacturing industry in this country is dead, at $350 a pop for these things i beg to differ.
