Default Getting a CARB EO# - in 8 months.

In case you guys haven't heard, Tom @ Fast Forward Superchargers has managed to get a CARB EO# (EO# D-617) for the MP62 Coldside Supercharger for the 1990~2003 Miatas in just about 8 months time.

Along the way, there have been many people who have poo-pooed his efforts at every step. Every time he has gone to the next step of the CARB process, the naysayers' response has been, "Oh, that's the EASY part!".

Well, after spending his own money to buy a brand new 2005 Miata for the eventual CARB testing and spending over $10,000 of his own money on the CARB process itself, he has pass the certification for the 1990 to 2003 Miatas.

From what he has been told by CARB, it might be possible to carry over the CS EO# to the hotside superchargers for the same years.

I have to say that as a personal friend of Tom's, I have been sitting next to him while he was on the phone to CARB and it was a very painstakingly precise and detailed process.

At one point, BRP had announced that they had received a CARB test letter. In essence, a letter that entitles you to make an appointment to test your car at a CARB lab. I now know that they (BRP) were full of complete BULLSHIT!

In order to receive such a letter, you have to have very, very detailed installation instructions for every model year of Miata as well as a very detailed drawing of all of the vacuum lines that fit on the FI kit. If anyone has ever seen the instructions for the BRP kits (if you ever get one that is), you'd know that prior to [email protected], the directions were only about 5 or 6 pages.

The directions for the FFS kits OTOH, are 60 pages. Yup, 60 pages!

Anyway, aside from Moss/JR and the M45, Tom has now become the only supercharger vendor to receive a EO# for his MP62 kits.

Congrats Tom. You had a hell of a year and you deserve all of the accolades. And for all the ******** who said he would never pass CARB, a big F U!

BTW, here is the 05 he used for the CARB testing.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=160066850357

He is selling the 05 because he could not pass one or two of the tests required to get the EO# for the 04 and 05s.

As for getting a EO# for the 06+, fuggedaboutit. From what I understand, 06 is when they got even stricter with the CARB testing.

One more thing. All that bullshit from BRP about how their hotside kit drove like OEM was just that - BULLSHIT. I bought my HS from them and believed it. Though I've done a lot of work on my hotside, no way does it drive anywhere close to being oem.

BUT, with that said, the FFS Coldside DOES drive like OEM (at least what I remember a stock Miata feels like). That 05 Tom is selling is so stealthy, the 190HP feels almost disappointing in that car. Tom likes to listen to the radio and actually have conversations on the phone and with his passengers while driving, so he left everything else on the 05 stock. The result is that off boost and off to on boost just feels completely OEM.

I first test drove the 05 almost a year ago and I was impressed then. With the PC Pro, it is amazing. Even the SC whine is barely noticeable when you go WOT and unnoticeable when you have the radio on.

If anyone gets a chance to drive a CS, you should try it and see what I'm talking about.

As far as I'm concerned, unless a vendor is actually shipping the product today, he doesn't have crap. You can be working on it all you want, but I call it vaporware for cars.

Case in point, is BRP/SOT's blower for the NC. So far, there is one guy who has been the test pilot on their forums who has been talking about it. But the last time I checked, there's been no dyno #s, no real photos, just hype. Then there's BRP/SOT's blower for the S2000 that some people (IIRC) have put down a deposit for.

Jesus, did BRP come to your house and **** your wife while you were at work or something,

Why in the world would you be so up to date on vendors not having crap. It truly seems as if you are concerned.

I take things extremely personal when someone questions my integrity. More than one person has done so in regards to the BRP situation when I questioned their business ethics in particular and their business practices in general.

Besides, it doesn't take a lot of effort to take a quick look through their Forums to figure out what's going on over there.

As for BEGI, AFAIK, they are still working on the beta versions of their blowers.

I would rather listen to what Chuck has to offer on the SC info then do all the homework myself he has lost alot of money to BRP at one time but i think he knows wether something is worth a **** or not as far as product and customer support. Before I started reading his threads I wanted to get a SOT kit or at least buy some stuff from them I am leary of it now though. Tom seems like a much better business man with his products being all the better, than the rest. If i where to but a SC it would be a FFS, probably a CS at that.

You guys want to talk about customer service? Here's something Tom doesn't really say much about. He has a customer in Ohio that was having trouble with his (self) installation of the coldside. I happen to be at Tom's house at least once when he was talking to the customer on the phone trying to help him out.

Tom knew that the problem he was having was not supercharger related, but he drove from his home in PHOENIX ARIZONA to OHIO free of charge just to help him out.

You may see him post about driving out to Ohio in his 10AE with the coldside, but I've never seen him post WHY he drove out there. That's 2000 miles!

And sure enough, it turned out to something unrelated to the supercharger. Again, Tom drove out to Ohio, free of charge.

Now THAT'S CUSTOMER SERVICE!

To be completely fair, Barker Products, the new owners of BRP/Stage One Tuning is a completely legitimate business that deals in nuclear test equipment. They have nothing to do with the old BRP/SOT other that the fact that they were selling SC kits to Brant aka BRP (for cash).

But in buying BRP, they also took over BRP's debts, of which there are plenty.

See now whats gonna happen is that im gonna buy from Tom and expect him at my door every time something goes wrong.

as for BRP i never saw anything impressive from them in the beginning.

PS: I have no knowledge of chucks money losses to BRP, althought a write up of his dealings would be nice.
