Default So I just got a new DD...

I needed something to drive to my Co-op with US air and back every day while at Pitt this fall semester, and I have been looking for a good car for a while. I was looking used, leaseing, etc, but then a couple days ago, I drove by this:

A 01 Saab 9-5 Aero wagon! I drove it and fell in love with it. Handles great, has great power, has the room of a wagon, and looks slick (to me at least lol). Not to mention it is loaded with leather, heated seats, harman kardon radio, remote lock, etc. Got it for 6k with 88k miles. Anyone else here own one?

And yeah I still have the miata, it is just put on hold for, well, probably the rest of college. V8 swap after? haha.

I've never really paid any attention to Saabs, but for some reason they are becoming more and more appealing to me lately.

Seriously, I was surprised. The Aero makes 230hp (more in later models), and handles great with minimal body roll. Plus the aero uses the well made TD04 turbo, which is larger than the garrett that the lower models use.

Not to mention there is a freeware program that you can use to interface with the STOCK ecu and tune it like a stand alone. That gives me a big boner.

Good luck! I wouldn't buy a Saab after 99. I have a 99 9-3 and I love it but after 99 GM took over and they have way to many problems. My friend that is a mechanic at Saab said the same thing about them.

GM had a big part in Saab starting in '94.
Saab:

GM:

They're a little hit and miss in terms of reliability, but I love them. I've had a 1994 Saab 900s with a V6 and 5spd. Crashed that into a tree at 100mph, and walked away without a scratch. Then had a 1997 Saab 9000 2.3t auto, and had the transmission go out 4 times; thankfully the last 3 times were warranted. Both were my dads cars, I loved both, although I told him to stay away from the automatic 9000's at all costs. He obviously didn't listen.

They're really an amazing car. For whatever reason their value plummets like crazy every year, yet they're loaded to the gills with options, and most are turbocharged! I'd love to have another.

I had an '01 9-3 with a Viggen turbo. It was fast but not fun. 230hp would be more fun if it was not fwd with axles that are completely different lengths. It's a great DD and winter car.

My lady friend has an 00-01? 9-3 4dr. It's ugly as all he'll but I put a boost controller and an intake on it and it's kinda fun to drive every now and again.

A guy I know has to have all euro cars. After his 2 saabs, he said that he would never have another DD that was out of warranty.

Do the surgeons think that your ***** will be able to be re-attached, or is it pretty much a lost cause at this point?

Tapping sound SAAB

Here in Jax nobody seems to want them, most of the time in very pristine condition.

That is a standard feature in most saabs. Maybe it is to enhance the stereo?

I like it.

Otherwise, don't they make one that is basically the same as a wrx? AWD, boxer motor, etc.

I like the 9-5 aero, but that wagon's *** looks odd to me, i'd take the sedan.

Yes, it was a re badged WRX to try and boost sales, it didn't work. It's nearly identical aside from the grill and the rest of the badges. Slightly nicer interior components I think. They're a good buy, reliability of a WRX with a little more luxury, and they don't go for quite as much as they're worth. I think only 1-2 grand over the price of a Subaru unit.

an 01 9-5 for 6k? nice find! I have 2 friends with newer 9-3s that love them, and one friend with a pre-GM car who is a SAAB fanatic. The 2 guys with the newer 9-3s absolutely love their cars, and the SAAB Fanatic with the pre-GM car has recently decided that he hates the car because there are always so many problems with it. I tend to think that, although the post-GM cars may have had their fair share of problems, the pre-GM cars were just as problematic. It was simply the pre-GM SAAB enthusiasts who exaggerated the number of problems that the Post-GM cars had.

We are a semi-SAAB family. My dads DD has ~350HP on the wheels. (The wrong wheels, but there is not much to do about that). I learned to drive on a -86 900 Turbo. Great cars for DD. Not much for racing.
