Default Got a new toy! Bring on macro shots

I've been eyeing this thing up for a while....I was going to go for the 2.8L but couldn't justify spending 300 to 400 more just for IS since they are about the same optically. It's so nice to finally being able to get some extreme close up shots

My cheapest lens takes my best "macro" shots:

Size: 87.6 KB
Nikon AF-S 18-55mm Kit lens

This is my best lens for shallow DOF:

Size: 92.3 KB
Sigma 50mm F/1.4

Your shots, however, are mucho impressive.

I don't know anything about photography. What makes this a bad or a good macro shot?

What kind of picture can you get when you shoot a dime?
