1980 Ford Fairmont Wagon, baby blue. 4-spd manual. I've had it up to 85 (max speedo reading).

Worked a shitload... making a shitload

Waiting Tables FTW. Id pull in 100-150 a night in tips at a pizza restaurant. The nights i wasn't waiting tables i was busing them.

Power to weight ratio is still in your favor. 2299lbs/270whp = 8.514 lbs/ HP (99 miata base). 3665lbs/400whp = 9.1625lbs/ hp (03 Cobra). I used the listed curb weights on Edmunds.com.

Hmmmmm. Perhaps it's closer than I thought. Didn't think a cobra was quite that heavy.

Just swap in a torsen and up the boost a little and you shouldn't have any problems.

Yeah, it needs a LSD bad. One tire fire in first or second at full throttle. And he just ordered 315 drag radials too... This summer I gotta get an RX7 LSD and get it installed. And something to combat wheel hop. And a built motor. And and and.

I was thinking the same thing.

A stock 03-04 Cobra makes about 380whp. It would be a good run for a Miata making between 230-250whp. With 270+, you should leave him pretty good.

I think I have a factory freak engine. I gave it pure hell back when it was N/A. This motor's spun 7700-7800 50 times at least, and been hit with 100 shot at a dead idle and it never complained before (sans blown HG from aforementioned nitrous problem).
You retard, you went and jinxed it now. Let me know when you start your motor build.

Nah, the car loves me. It wouldn't throw a rod after all I've done for it. Or perhaps if it was gonna throw a rod you'd think it would have done so already.

i already have a spare engine to build in two months

Keep in mind, cobras were underated HP wise from the facotry. Most have bolt ons that push cobras to 500rwhp pretty easy. If his cobra was stock that's one thing, but a blower pully, tune and a few other bolt on makes a big difference.

Indeed they were underrated. It's a stock cobra with exhaust. No pulley, no tune, etc. Stock with flowmasters.

The crx you have nothing to worry about. b16 crx will do 13's if that, nothing special. That mustang on the other hand, can be quite a contender especially at the drag strip. 400whp in a platform good for drag racing will take a bit of power/driving to beat.

If the mustang steps up his game and doubles his boost or adds nitrous, I really dont see how you can compete, especially with a stock engine.

I have already accepted the fact that I wont be able to compete with my 450+whp wrx/sti/evo buddies for quite some time at the strip or street race, so I'm not too worried about being "the fastest"

WI should definitely help you out....but at that power level I'm really curious what your transmission will have to say

Not gonna make enough power to play with the "big boys" with 450+ with a GT25. Get the Miata to 300+ and don't go from a dig, and you might win a few.

same situation for me too. Only at a lower level, since my friend just picked up a stock 04 350z, and all i need to do to beat that is ecu and turbo.

Good luck to you with that cobra. If he beats you, tell him to race you in something other than a straight line. Perhaps autox.

Glad someone already mentioned power to weight. Otherwise, you can already kill him on the track and with any luck keep up with him on a straight. Why not just put the LSD in and call it a day?

The mustangs have us beat on traction and as the speeds rise and air resistance takes over, their higher hp becomes a huge advantage.

I've found that the miata is strongest between 40 and 110. The larger cars that can't be convincingly beat inside that window are going to put a hurting on you at the higher speeds. The fact that they kept up with you through gears 2-4 means they have similar power to weight and the fact that they are heavier means that they a lot more hp. At triple digit speeds, air resistance and raw hp means a lot more than power/weight.

Yeah it REALLY needs an LSD. Bad. That will come this summer for sure not matter what. Wish I could do it sooner, but I can't.

And yeah, I got a spare engine. See, if I didn't have a spare engine, oil pan, gasket set, and every other little piece that would be needed to change engines, my motor would blow up. But since I'm 100% ready for it to kick the bucket, she holds. Murphy hates me.

first car:

I wish I had kept it and paid someone to build a turbo kit for it, rather than buy an overpriced car that put me in debt for a decade.
