What's so wrong with an SKS that you wouldn't take one?

I have 2 SKS. One new in the box, and one I've put a couple of thousand rounds through. Reasonably fun to shoot, but not very accurate. A real piece of crap, quality wise. But when I bought them, ammo was 7 cents a round. Good for just blasting away.

I've tried selling my AR, but haven't gotten much interest. Bought that one the day the ban was voted in, and never took it out of the box.

Now just convince congress to give those to us. Cleaning M16s/M4s sucks.

Sure does. I have an M44 and it packs some punch.

Went to the outdoor range today and believe it or not there was a guy shooting a Mosin beside us. I hate when someone with a loud rifle sits on the immediate left because it is always loud as hell (even outside). We played around with the Ruger 10/22 and got to talk to a guy who brought his SKS with full black plastic furniture, a bipod and a red dot scope. Was a pretty nice setup that I think I am going to copy. I have full wood, a regular scope, bayonet and a golf ball launcher on mine right now (which is stupid because you cannot extend the bayonet with that thing on there). We had a party on Saturday and there was a guy there with his class 03 license. Said it was $30 for 3 years. Not a bad deal if you buy a lot of old guns (even though I only pay an FFL $15 it is still a pain that I don't like going through).

Get a piston upper, I've got an Osprey kit installed on my M4 now and cleaning is a breeze after every range . Rest of my company hates me, but 'em. Have a Leupold CQT on her as well.

SKSs are a joke.

If you want to feel recoil, fire a .45-70 Gov't.

They really are a piece of junk. Fun to shoot, but I sure wouldn't want to bet my life on it in combat.

This thread makes me want to go out and shoot my AR and AK... Now I just need a Nagant to throw my shoulder out of place.

Oh yeah? How much? Or did you get it from supply?

Definitely not from supply, somewhere around $400 for the Osprey conversion kit, around $800 for the optics. Check with your armorer and make sure he's cool with it before you go doing it as TECHNICALLY it's not authorized, but I'm cool with my armorer and he could give two ***** what I do to my weapon as long as it functions "properly" (which as you know isn't saying much by Army standards.)
