Harbor Freight Win-or-Fail Thread

I purchased the LaView system in the link and it has arrived. The manual leaves something to be desired. Does the unit not come with a hard drive? The documentation doesn't discuss installing one, just initializing one and you recommended purchasing one. Was the recommendation just as an upgrade or is it necessary for operation? I just feel strange taking out a screwdriver and opening up a brand new component.

Correct, no hard drive installed. You can set it up and it will run without a hard drive but live view only, no playback. For just the 4 cameras, a 2TB would get you probably 4-6 days worth of playback. Best deal I can find right now is the Seagate Skyhawk for $70 with promo code. The hard drive is pretty well plug and play and the LaView system comes will cables for it. The UI on the LaView system is definitely a little clunky but overall fairly simple to get up and running. I have the same system so let me know if you run into any issues.

Thanks guys. Having read the instructions, I think I'm going to set it up where it only records when it detects motion. I don't want to have a dedicated monitor for it so I will probably use one for setup and just use my phone for viewing it. I don't expect to be viewing it unless I have some kind of problem.

FAIL - does not fit quart bottles of gear oil commonly found in auto stores.
- This gear oil pump enables makes it easy to transfer fluids including gear oil, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, hydraulic oil and compressor oil. Constructed of durable ABS plastic, this gear oil pump is designed to fit most lube containers. The pump dispenses one fluid ounce of product with each press for easy measurement.
- Fits most quart, 1/2 gallon, and gallon lube containers (NOT!)
- Pumps 1 fl. oz. per press

I love my NightOwl system. 8 channel 4MP motion activated (infrared and frame analysis), motion activated recording, mobile apps, web interface, desktop app, 1TB drive included (good for months of recording in motion activation mode) and was only $250 at Costco.
In pictures below quality is worse than in actual recording - I use Imgur.com for forum pic hosting and they apply some sort of compression which reduces quality.

Take a look at Lorex and Q-See at costco as well. I just helped my dad install the Lorex six 8mp camera kit (was $700, now back up to $800). Not sure about Night Owl, but both Lorex and Q-See are rebranded Dahua cameras which are very good quality for the price and if needed, extra cameras can be bought off AliExpress for way cheaper than the rebrand websites with way more selection.

OEM Tools 27213 on-car wheel bearing puller/installer
I figured I'd throw this up here even though it's not HF nor is it cheap. It's less expensive than the rest, good quality and is huge time saver because it allows you to do the wheel bearings without removing the carrier. I just did the bearings on my Boxster and it made the job simple. Amazon just dropped their price on it by $50 too. I think this a big win for Miatas. You can keep your good carrier, buy new bearings, repack with your fav grease and install. Cost $250
Pulling the hub on-car
And the process for pulling the bearing using similar parts as seen with the HF kit

FAIL: HF 5 gallon gas can (Midwest Can - Item#67997). It was under $15 with a coupon.
This thing is a piece of ****. I didn't notice when I bought it that it has an "automatic self-sealing spout"
It does not vent properly and when you press the button that allows you to get gas out of the can, it sprays gasoline everywhere.
I am glad less than 24hrs had passed before I filled it up and used it. I can't imagine how much worse it would have been with more pressure.
If you are looking to make a gasoline geyser, or need a gift for someone you hate, look no further.

Those Scribner jugs look nice, but I'm looking at $40+ once I add the hose and shipping.
Found on Amazon with funnel for $32 shipped.
Was hoping for a sub $15 plastic can, but it looks like those days are gone.
