Yeah I agree. But... I only wanted to point out things aren't as hard as they may seem. Also, I've rented a one way Uhaul + trailer before (the later model Uhaul aren't that bad to drive long distances).

Another possibility is Enterprise (1/2T pickup) one way + Uhaul car trailer one way. Unlimited mileage so out gas + 1 night hotel/meals + time.

A lot less than $800 I think (OK, forgot about the plane ticket...). Fly into Minneapolis/St Paul + pickup the truck rental + trailer and drive...

Plus, you get to see a part of the country you may not have seen.
