Cheap torsens are rare. I've seen 3 this past year. Cheap 7" opens are common. Get one and an rx7 clutch pack and be happy.

i would NOT use a 5-6 point on a stock seat for track events!

the stock seat is not set up for harnesses. the shoulder belts can slide off and the 5th-6th point (crotch straps) would need to be run over the top of the bottom seat cushion allowing you to submarine.

if the shoulder belts slip you can/will break your sternum and if you submarine in the seat you can/will compress your spine when you crash.

While the 3 points suck they have been designed for the stock seat.

sorry for the quick post i'm at my co-op job and lunch break is ending

If you cross the shoulder belts behind the seat there is little chance of slippage. I sit on the anti-sub belts and run them behind the seat. I'd have to literally split in two for this to be an issue. Even with out the anti-sub belt I don't think submarining in a miata is that much of an issue, the driving position is too upright.

If you really thing it is that much of an issue, use both. The racing harness to hold you in place the the 3pt to "save" you in the event of a crash.

Since cost seems like an issue, you could always run a CG-lock with the stock belt for better support/holding with the stock seats while you get the funds together for seats/harnesses.

stop reading m.net. Like jays said, the stock seat is too upright to sub, and its not any worse than the 3-point. You also won't have to fight to keep yourself in the seat.

Id go with whatever you can find for a better deal. I found both of my seats local for dirt cheap. Just get whatever you can find for a steal. If both are equal deals Id go torsen tho

While I assume we both agree that wearing the 3 point with a properly set up 5-6 point is a bad idea, I would like to agree to disagree about running harnesses on a stock seat for anything but auto-x.
