I'm looking to buy a welder and make myself an exhaust among other things, but one of the things I've always wondered is how you get the flange on at the right angle and orientation, since the Miata flanges have funny angles.

All you fabbers and some others are probably laughing your *** off at my ignorance right now, but help a brotha' out

 

The only flange that is funny is the cat flanges. If you're making your own then make everything straight. Right? If you must reuse the angle (i.e. you don't want to redo the downpipe or cat or your a ******* *****) then you'll either have to put the flange at an angle to the pipe or learn how to make bends cut at perpendicular tangents.

In all seriousness, I'm still deciding, probably just some shitty gasless welder since all I plan to do is exhausts, if I decide to get more serious I'll upgrade to a real welder.

I think you can get flanges from Bassani Exhausts, they sell pre-bent piping for DIY exhausts and I believe flanges too, I apologize if I'm wrong on that though. Not at a bad price either, I would check their website.

Thanks for the offer but I'm looking for just the typical round flanges for exhausts, I'm only really looking to do test pipes, resonators, and catbacks.

How many here would be interested in a resonator that went in place of the cat? Straight drop in. Jus' wondering for preliminary figures.

Use v band flanges? lol really, even the cheap ebay ones are better than using traditional flanges. That and tack welding everything while its mocked up under the car, then pull it off and do a full weld.
