After an hour, it's pretty clear the smoke smell is permanently soaked into the foam... every time you lay down, it fills the room. The cover/liner are clean, but the guts are contaminated.

I've gotta see if there's a place in town that sells shredded foam... maybe a local furniture store will have a clue. In any case, it's gonna go in the garage and back on CL to a nice smoking family who won't mind.

Saw that coming. I hoped that it was just in the liner for your sake, and that you washed it out, but I'm not surprised.

The foam has that 'smoke stained brown' color to it. Good luck finding something to fill it with.

Furniture padding foam always yellows over time.

I redid boat seats in the bow of my old boat using foam pieces from a guy who did furniture upholstery. He didn't charge me anything because they were scraps to him and he had a pile in the corner of his shop the size of a Humvee. Don't be afraid to hit up two or three local mom and pop upholstery places for their scraps. They throw them away anyway. If you end up bringing home larger pieces they are easy to cut up with a carpet knife or razor knife.

You can make one of those for about $20 depending on what you pay for the zippers and fabric. --I haz teh industrial sewing machine for auto upholstery but you only need the home version to make something like that.

Is padding or beads better?

Personal preference, I like styrofoam beads better, but upholstery foam scraps are probably easier to find and don't squeak when they rub together.

Great idea... I always wanted my own memorial giant bean bag chair down at the local pool hall!
