Wait, what are we doing? Pictures of our "work area", or list of geeky **** we see in our local vicinity?

Yah, need clarification, so I know whether to take a pic of the Sparc IPX I have in a closet somewhere, or the current system which is a water-cooled nehalem chipset.

Or maybe that answers the question right there ...

I'm quite uber geek, but my stuff is scattered between several rooms, and hidden away. My desk is clean for once. Nothing geeky in my visibility range other than my computer and my HT system and a PATA 133 I was trying to integrate into my new system last night, but my current HDD's and my GPU was in the way, so I scrapped the idea.

i only wish my office setup was like that... there is at least $50k in hardware in that office! my office equipment consists of the following:

- 15" macbook pro 2.6ghz / 4gb ram / 200gb 7200rpm sata + 24" lcd (my setup)
- 2.6ghz core 2 duo desktop / 4gb of ram / 1tb sata / 320gb sata + 2x 24" lcds (project manager / coder)
- 27" imac 3.06ghz / 8gb ram / 1tb sata + 24" lcd (sys admin / python developer)
- 2x dell sc440 2.0ghz p4 dual core / 2gb ram / 2x 80gb sata raid 1 (ubuntu dev boxes)
- 2x msi wind nettop 1.6ghz intel atom single core / 1gb ram / 80gb sata (ubuntu dev boxes)
- xeon x3450 / 8gb ram / 6x 1tb raidz / 40gb ssd for cache / 4gb flash drive for os/boot (freebsd file server - still underway)
- linksys wrtg54 (dd-wrt)
- 2x nslu2 boxes as dns servers
- and some few external 1tb drives, some spare 1tb sata drives, whole bunch of spare ram (~10 ddr3 sticks ranging from 1gb to 4gb)

im currently trying to convince my flagship client to get these for me:
- 5x dual e5520 / 24gb ram / 2x 80gb sata raid 1
- 2x x3450 / 8gb ram / 40gb ssd / 6x 1tb sata
- 2x x3450 / 8gb ram / 2x 500gb sata raid 1

Yeah, I'd say that guy has already made it big. Anybody who can telecommute from their home office in Boston to the Cali home office is in charge.

Where do you find the need for all of this crap? I like a clean and simple setup. I have a single desktop that I use (5 or 6 that I don't)
-3.6Ghz AMD Phenom 940 / 8GB DDR2 / ATI 4870 / ~2TB total storage
-24'' Samsung 2443BWX
-Samsung NC10 netbook
-WRT54GL router
-Spare parts, too many to list

So not your house I assume? You still never clarified what this thread was about. I was assuming home geekiness, which is all I have.

I don't even have an official place of work, but if it is home geekyness, I might be able to play

-IBM P4 server collecting dust that I bought for fun.
-Running a gaming rig/random rig on a KVM switch.
-Latitude D620 running Ubuntu
-IBM R500 with a bad fan.
-PS2 that has to be pulled apart to use... laser isn't adjusted right and it's one of the gay ones that resets itself.
-Full independent network JUST for my room, the rest of the house can use their shitty wireless one.
-Built every computer I've used for more than a couple weeks. (except laptop).
-Built a briefcase computer, blew up.
-Closet chocked full of computer BS. Literally a walk-in closet filled with excess of 10 graphics cards, a huge box of ram, and more ram then an average calculator can add.
-At one point I had 6 HP desktops (forgot the model)
-I dumpster dive for computers and parts
-I have glasses
-I take apart everything I own
-I have long hair
-HUGE potato gun hobby, I have 4, one of which has 4 chambers (not done yet though)
-Homemade moped.

Yes, you could say I'm quite the geek

My most recent build, a nice gaming box.

Let's see what is in my desk...

Hrmm I know there is more.. oh there it is...

Two tubs, the bottom is full, top is getting there.

More?

The boxes..
Two slaves, one capable of some moderate gaming, the other just for HDDs.

The game box, case is nearly twice the size of the others and has enough fan power to take flight.. I really need sum water coolz.

And of course the wouldn't be home without a car part... a BIG one..

That thing slowly moves around, as it gets in my way. Although tonight I finally made room in my closet so it's tucked away.
