Has anyone ever repurposed large gauge wire for use in serial communications? Something like sending RS485 over #12 wire? I did it once in the past over a short distance, and it worked fine, but I am wondering if there are problems that would show up in a longer run.

If you're trying to go a kilometer at a high datarate, I doubt that you're going to get anything even remotely resembling a balanced 120 ohm pair out of common #12 wire. But if you mean "a few tens of feet," then yeah, 485 is pretty robust. |
Just got a phone call from the general manager of Mazda TR.
Apparently he would like to invite me to Barcelona, for the unveiling of the fourth generation MX-5. I guess I will be the only guest attending the shindig from Turkey... So there.. |

It sounds like you've got a firm handle on this, and for the distance and datarate you're looking at, I strongly suspect* that two untwisted 12awg wires will work fine, provided that there's not a huge amount of incident noise. * = unless this is a safety-critical system in something like a factory, a power plant or a hospital, in which case I've never heard of you and this will definitely not work. |

I almost regret not being close to her but i guess she ruined that for herself when she divorced my dad. Either way i feel little to no pain, i was probably the only one not to cry at the funeral. |

Eh. My 01 is like a Buick compared to my 94. Even my 94 in stock form, though it was an R package car. I guess the few upgrades the NB has makes it seem a bit more fun. It is way more rev happy though, i very often find the fuel cut without realizing it.

So I was driving my GF to work today and some asshole proceeds to cut me off, it wasn't horrible so I didn't think too much of it. I look over as he moved over to the next lane and he looks like he is about to try some shit so I haul ass past him.
I think it's over and next thing I know he is on my ass. Like two feet away. I try to separate from him as much as possible without getting reckless. There is some traffic so I am hoping that helps. It doesn't. He then proceeds to get around me, roll down the window and throw change at my car. Now the great part. I have a dash camera, and it is ALL ON TAPE. This scum is going down. Calling the police department today and handing over the video. I'll post it later if I can (not sure how that works if it is evidence or whatever). Anyways so happy I have the dash cam now. This is the first time in my life where it would have helped me and I had one. Always thought I was wasting my time getting the GoPro out and keeping it charged and the memory card empty. It all pays off today. I have a chip in the window and I think some bumper damage as well. We were going high way speeds when he did it, so it hit with a lot of force. I hope that shit didn't hit my intercooler, but I plan to inspect it more later today after I see what the Police say. Anyways, count 1 for the good guys. |
I worked with a guy that got pissed when a car was riding his bumper so he opened his sunroof and tossed a handful of change back that hit square across the windshield. Turns out it was a unmarked police car. It was not a good day for him.

I'm cool with road rage type shit until it involves damaging someones property. I've had this car all of two months, and some low life scum has to fuck it up because they don't care about anyone but themselves? I am so happy I have it on video or else this kid would see zero consequences.
The operator (non-emergency number) said there was nothing I could do. I lol'd and said let me talk to an officer. He was all on board and told me to send the video to him ASAP and he would at the very very least go knock on the door and talk with them. I am going out to check damage now, if the spots in the window look like they could crack, or the bumper is damaged I am pressing as many charges as I can. Everyone makes mistakes, but you learn from the consequences. |

Some idiots in a souped up bimmer tried that shit on me over here, I just put the pedal down and moved away about a quarter mile from them. Because fast car and no speed limits. |
