Because it's purely mechanical. I can SEE what needs to be changed in a old distributor. I don't see anything but numbers in a fuel table.

You can probably look at a circuit diagram and see what needs to be changed to get a certain output. To me, that's all greek.

 

Yes but the numbers mean something... They arent just numbers. The difference is that you need to know what the numbers mean before you change them.

 

Question for welding gurus:

I'm no expert in welding, I can do basic stuff to get by.

Would you guys recommend this welder for general repair / light fabbing?

I have no experience with that welder but 120 amps wont get you very far. 1 amp per thousandth gets you to .12 maxed out IF it will max out. It looks like the duty cycle is 10% and that isnt good.

 

So, among the many items I inherited when I moved into my new office is an NEC LCD3000 monitor. This 30" bad boy was the height of monitor technology when it was announced in 2002. It has heavy duty carry handles on the back, and makes an audible whirring noise when it's on -- I think it might have cooling fans inside. It features an incredible 1280x768 screen resolution, and reviewed quite well when it hit the market in 2003 (as well it should, for a monitor costing northwards of $4,000).

What should I do with it?

 

The obvious first response is "office space?"

You can't do anything useful with it nowadays due to HDCP.

Long range rifle target?

 

I've been trying to think of some use for it all afternoon.

Honestly, unless you need a TV set for your bathroom, I'm drawing a bit of a blank. Even if I had it here at the TV station, I'd struggle to find a use for it. It's too large to fit in a rack, too small to go on the set, and too low-resolution for me to want to use it on a desktop or as a QC monitor.

Do you guys do trade shows? Have a fancy lobby? That monitor is background eye-candy.

 

My god, what does it weight?

 

35 lb / 16 kg. Fairly average for a monitor that size with a commercial-grade chassis, even by modern standards.


I've still never figured out how much the monitor we recently purchased weighs. The closest estimate I have is the bill of lading from the delivery company which called it just over 800 lbs, although that included the crate, which was not insubstantial. You could ship 50 dead hookers in the box this thing came in.

The company which makes it said it was 295 lbs, however our integrator said that's complete bullshit, as they tried to weigh it and found that it exceeded the capacity of their freight scale.

 

Well, at least you all appreciate the dilemma. I'd feel odd just tossing it in the dumpster, but I honestly have no clue what to use it for. Apparently it was last employed as a monitor for training sessions in one of our small conference rooms -- the trainer could connect his or her laptop and demonstrate things to a small group.

But now all of our conference rooms have projectors or large 65"+ TV's for this purpose.

The closest I've come to a decent idea is similar to Joe's "fancy lobby" comment -- put it in a public area with some kind of looping video or slideshow running on it. That's about all I can come up with. But even that doesn't really make sense, because we are a healthcare company, not a retail business. Our customers are patients (kind of) and referring physicians (more accurately) and neither group hangs around in our corporate headquarters lobby to be impressed by a 12 year old 30" monitor.

 

Actually, I just had a better idea -- it would make an excellent prop for a small budget sci-fi movie production.

 

After spending some quality time in the restroom here at the office over a period of several days, I've come to the conclusion that most guys have some degree of prostate issue or I'm just an incredibly optimal urinatior.

 

So i'm getting my tonsils removed tomorrow morning.

Tonsillectomies are, if done right, super fast recovery procedures. Outpatient. No ice cream needed.

Coblation is the way to go. Not just because I worked for the company that developed it or because I made the wand to do it.

That **** terrifies me. Second only to death. Straining to **** and only getting intermittent streams sounds like the worst thing on earth. Lots of it here in the office, too.

Then we have that one dude that can **** to completion in about 2 seconds. ************ sounds like he just dumps a 5 gallon bucket in the urinal. I'm intrigued, scared, and envious all at the same time.

 

Speaking of work bathrooms....am I the only one who doesn't sound like I am trying to invert my rectum when I take a dump? Anytime there is someone in the stall next to me I think they are gonna pop a blood vessel or something with how hard it sounds like they are struggling. I simple don't understand why that level off effort is necessary.

I keep a bottle in my desk at work, and a bottle at home. 4-5 of them before any meal low in naturally-occurring fiber. Great *****.
