Then you are using the wrong batteries ;) The batteries I have would work great.

EO2K 11-12-2015 01:04 PM

Ok I'll bite, what batteries?

Ideally I'm looking for a early to mid 80's 400-600cc import cruiser bike with a blown motor, chain drive, disc brakes and a FUCKING PINK SLIP. I figured I'd end up using some combination of cells salvaged from a Prius or something. That's the only way I figured I can get the capacity I need and weight down to where it won't overload the bike. I only need 20 miles worth of range but 55mph top speed at a minimum.

Electric commuter would be bauce.

aidandj 11-12-2015 01:06 PM

Mine has drum brakes, and no pink slip. But it never had a pink slip so I can apply for a title.

EO2K 11-12-2015 01:09 PM

I should have said at least a disc in the front, I know disc/disc was not exactly a thing in the 80's.

I'm never going to fight a pink slip battle again with the CA DMV. Its not worth my time and the aggravation. Unless of course the bike is exactly what I want, and very very cheap. As in nearly free.

Something like this would be almost perfect: https://monterey.craigslist.org/mcy/5287041574.html

Mine was free.

I called the OR DMV. And I need registration records for the VIN from WA, ID, NV, and CA in writing and then they can register it. I got all the paperwork needed. Then went to start it and it wouldn't start after sitting for a while.

aidandj 11-12-2015 01:11 PM

Go buy that right now!

Mine is more of a dual sport.

EO2K 11-12-2015 01:16 PM

I've been thinking about it, but I don't have the money in the slush fund right now. It's been posted for 17 days now so if it was going to sell it would have by now. If its still there at the end of the month I might go check it out. We'll see.

EO2K 11-12-2015 01:26 PM

We need to start a gas to electric conversion thread when we get these projects off the ground, so Joe can come laugh at us. :giggle:

aidandj 11-12-2015 01:28 PM

Mine is a ways out. I want to get this go cart running first, blow the motor thats in it. Then build a miata motor.

Ahem? Who built two of the very first hybrids on this forum?

I ain't laughin, just judging your poor choice in motor technology.

Free brushed DC > brushless DC.

I don't expect this brushed motor to last long at all with this motor controller.

surely you know this, but the controller used has little to do with the longevity of the motor, but rather the voltage applied and the resulting current drawn from the motor that will kill it.

aidandj 11-12-2015 02:37 PM

Remember how I don't know what mechanical (or is it electrical in this case) empathy?

I'm sure I can put around without killing the motor. But whats the point of a $3000 motor controller if you dont break things.

I lost track of who posted the Alltrax DCP motor controller which electric Jesus hates.

But I'm sure you'll make the same mistake. :dealwithit:

aidandj 11-12-2015 02:39 PM

I did.

What would you suggest in its place that will do 1000+ amps and cost nothing?

Well, since you dismiss mechanical empathy, and your past history has shown you to be suicidally insane, there's always this:

It's lighter.
