3d printing makes about $8/hr here. It has become a garbage job. 7 years ago the average was $20-25/hr.
The average CNC machinists makes about $12-15/hr. There are specialty shops making medical and aviation parts that pay more, but they are not common.
The money has shifted to full service prototype shops. Design, build, redesign for production.
Focus has shifted to parametric modeling over programming. Drafting is dead.

So, I'm still waiting on the official offer from the company I'm interviewing with. My current company knows this. We just hired someone to (partially) replace me.

Yesterday, my boss comes into my office and says, "So, I know your hiring process over there has been slow. Whether you decide you want to stay here, or if you're just here for a while before you leave, you've got a raise coming."

Well, okay. Sure.

Nah, it wasn't that bad. They went to college and were forced to learn Pascal as another throwaway language, then they got real jobs and learned C.

I did one class in F77, man that language was crufty.

^ That would make me watch the Olympics.

A thought just occurred to me. I wonder if airlines receive kickbacks from the bar at the terminal based on the number of flight-delay-hours per month.

Quick update:

Alive and well - so far - in Istanbul.
State of emergency declared as of last night.

Government sponsored rallies every night, till dawn.
All public transportation is free these days - encouraging people to attend the rallies.

Almost 100K gov't employees laid off/under investigation/detained/arrested so far from every imaginable level.

Truly unnerving days, uncertainty rules. $ is at all time high, at 3.09 TL, meaning price hikes.

-----

We had a break at work for the end of Ramadan festivities for a couple weeks. (Eid, or whatever it is called)
Just started back, and put in a couple of days already.
Shooting starts tomorrow (cameras, not guns)

Ihave to admit, the show is turning out too be much better than anyone expected.
It has a rather dystopian look, and we seem to pull that off well.

Looks like I may have serious and steady work with and after this show.

I will write in detail.

Glad to see you posting publicly again, Commie. I didn't want to spill the beans from our private email exchanges, but several people here have PMed me that they were worried about you.

Great news about the show. Any idea whether there will be an English-subtitled version of it available?

I want to upgrade my Laptop #1 from Win10 OEM to Win7. Laptop #2 has Win7 OEM Home edition. Can I somehow swap Win7 from Laptop #2 to Laptop #1 and vice versa?

Tool question for you bros, I have a little extra cash and I'm about to start looking online for a wrench socket set and open end wrenches.

Any recommended brands? Mega tool set recommendations?

Ive bought 3 of these in the last few years. I use one as my track/"mobile auto repair for friends and relatives" set, and the other were gifts. Youll need to fill in some gaps, but its great for $99. I know people **** on current craftsman crap, but its still better than fuking pittsburg /\. Ive managed to strip out the 1/2" ratchet when I stood on it with a 3ft cheater trying to remove a hub nut, everything else has survived so far. And if you wait until Decmeber, this kit goes on sale every year for $10-20 less.

They lack open ended wrenches. Match that up with 2 sets of Pittsburgh wrenches (sae+metric) and you are good to go.

I got these with one of the 30 percent off coupons. Needs some wrenches and doesn't have many 1/2" drive sockets but I've been pretty happy.
